Nebraska football is looking to make some headway on the recruiting trail, and it appears that some predictions are trending their way as well. Rivals.com’s Greg Smith put in FutureCasts for 2024 tight and Carter Nelson, 2024 offensive lineman Caleb Pyfrom, and 2024 corner Mario Buford.
Nelson is the 40th overall player nationally in the 2024 class. He is the eighth overall tight end in the class, and the top player in the state of Nebraska per the 247Sports composite rankings. He has a visit scheduled to Nebraska on June 23. Georgia is also in his itinerary. He plans to visit Athens on June 2.
Pyfrom is a three-star recruit. He is the 44th overall offensive tackle in the 2024 class. He is also the seventh overall player in the state of Nebraska per the 247Sports rankings. He is scheduled to visit Nebraska this weekend, doing so on June 2.
Buford is an interesting prediction as well. He is a four-star corner. He is the 28th overall corner in his class, and the 56th overall player in his class from the state of Texas per the 247Sports Rankings. He has been linked to Nebraska before, as Crystal Ball predictions were put in for him at the end of March.
What does this mean for Nebraska football?
This is tremendous news for Nebraska football. Nelson’s FutureCast prediction is particularly of note. New Nebraska football committee Daniel Kaelin tweeted at Nelson last week, and it seems like the quarterback is doing some peer recruiting. Nelson would undoubtedly be a major get for a Nebraska football program that needs big-time playmakers. With the Georgia Bulldogs focusing on the tight end position, this undoubtedly works in Nebraska’s favor as well.
Landing Nelson would be an immediate spark for the passing game, and it would set the trajectory of this program upward. Out of all the FutureasCasts made Tuesday, his is undoubtedly the most important. Of course, this is recruiting. He needs to step on the Memorial Stadium field before I get truly excited about him potentially coming to Nebraska.
Nevertheless, these predictions are a sign that this coaching staff is working hard at landing some big-time in-state prospects. The 2024 class has been a strong one to this point. It appears as though it may get even stronger.
