Welcome to the Big Red Rundown, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.
Geep Wade continues to look like a home run hire for Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule.
Not only did Wade add three starting-caliber players from the transfer portal this offseason, but he’s been an upgrade on the field, according to players and coaches, and on the recruiting trail.
On Wednesday, we saw his impact on Nebraska football on high school recruiting with the commitment of four-star offensive lineman Jordan Agbanoma, a 6-foot-3, 315-pounder described as a road grader. Out of Loganville, Georgia, Agbanoma was being recruited hard by Georgia, Florida and Texas A&M. Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida State and many others had offers on the table.
Nebraska football now has four top-100 commitments in the 2027 class out of nine total. Six of those commitments are ranked as four-star recruits (66 percent). That’s exactly where you want to be. Rhule and the Huskers have work to do to keep the class intact, but this commitment was one of the biggest of his head-coaching career in Lincoln.
Nebraska softball Super Regional Preview
The Huskers have won 49 games this season, including 24 in a row. They won the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles, yet unless they get two wins this week, it could all feel like a disappointment.
Nebraska softball is aiming for its first Women’s College World Series in over a decade. Standing in their way is Oklahoma State, the No. 13 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament (Nebraska is No. 4).
The Cowgirls (41-15) won’t be an easy out. They have made the Super Regional in six of the past seven years. Oklahoma State also went 3-0 during the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament thanks to a strong effort from Big 12 Pitcher of the. year Ruby Meylan. She’s a three-time All-American and is from Omaha.
Oklahoma State is also on fire at the moment, with a +27 run differential at their regional, which is the best in program history. Nebraska softball won its three games with a margin of 7-1 (+6). Rosie Davis leads the way for the Cowboys at the plate, with 50 RBI and 50 runs scored. She’s among the team leaders in home runs and doubles, reaching double figures in both categories. Amanda Hasler also has 14 home runs and 60 RBI to her credit. Catcher Audrey Schneidmiller also has a perfect fielding percentage.
Nebraska features eight all-region players, and Jordy Frahm, a top-three finalist for National Player of the Year, according to USA Softball. She’s got 19 wins and 19 home runs. She’s also pitched 76 fewer innings than Meylan, thanks to the stellar efforts of Alexis Jensen, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, who was 2-0 with just one run and three hits allowed last weekend.
Nebraska surrendered just four hits and one run total in 21 innings in the regional. Frahm struck out 21 batters in her last nine innings.
The offense will need to get going, but Nebraska will have home-field advantage. The series starts on Thursday at Bowlin Stadium at 8 PM CST on ESPN2. Game 2 is set for Friday at 4 PM (ESPN2). Game three, if necessary, is on Saturday. The winner of the best two-out-of-three series goes to the Women’s College World Series.
