Former Nebraska football player dominates in preseason as Emmett Johnson shines

When it comes to the NFL preseason, many Nebraska football fans are focused on Emmett Johnson.

The Nebraska rookie running back is one of the most popular Huskers to play in the NFL in a long time. He also plays for the Chiefs, the adopted NFL franchise of many Nebraska fans.

There was plenty of excitement when Johnson was drafted, and so far in the preseason, the former All-American for Nebraska has looked the part.

After rushing 12 times for 59 yards in his preseason debut with the Chiefs, adding three receptions for 10 yards, Johnson followed that up with a touchdown on Saturday night. He finished with 25 yards on seven carries and added a catch for 10 yards.

In all, Johnson has 84 yards on 19 carries for an average of 4.4 yards per attempt. He’s also got four receptions for 20 yards. That’s exactly what Kansas City should have been hoping for when they drafted Johnson, who could be the perfect backup and change-of-pace guy to Kenneth Walker, whom the Chiefs signed as a free agent.

Former Nebraka football player looks primed to break out after dominant showing

Ty Robinson played in 11 games last season for the Eagles, but finished with just five tackles. It was sort of a redshirt season for the former Nebraska defensive lineman.

Yet, on Saturday night, Robinson, a fourth-round pick, looked like someone ready to contribute in a much bigger way this season, after not one, but two sacks against the Patriots in the NFL preseason.

At 6-foot-5, 288 pounds, the fourth-round pick of the Eagles should have a rotational role and will be expected to play more snaps at defensive tackle this season. Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis lead the way for the Eagles; Moro Ojomo is another starter at defensive end.

However, after Robinson’s showing on Saturday night, he should get more opportunities, including as a pass rusher, to show what he can do this season.
