Welcome to the Big Red Rundown, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska football is surely hoping that it will be able to flip five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson in the 2027 recruiting class, but at least there is a clear backup plan if not.

The Huskers’ tight end board has been a little thin. But there is a top target, outside of Hudson. That’s three-star tight end Joey Hunter, a 6-foot-6, 255-pound prospect out of Loganville, Georgia.

Hunter released a top five on Tuesday night that included Nebraska football, along with Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and North Carolina State.

It feels much more like an ACC recruitment than a Big Ten battle. Yet, the Huskers have ties to Georgia through head coach Geep Wade. In fact, the most recent 2027 projection is from the Peach State.

Hunter told Tim Verghese of Rivals that he expects to take a visit soon. West Virginia and East Carolina were on the schedule for official visits at one time, so the Huskers have surpassed them. An unofficial visit, followed by an official visit, would be a great sign that Nebraska football has a real chance at a commitment, if they decided to push for it.

More love for Nebraska superstar Jordy Frahm

Regardless of what happens this week, it will be the final college softball games for Jordy Frahm in the state of Nebraska. The Women’s College World Series is in Oklahoma City.

Nebraska softball has a good chance to advance. It will be a battle, but the Huskers should have the edge on Oklahoma State. On Tuesday, Frahm, who has 19 wins as a pitcher and 19 home runs, making her one win and one homer shy of becoming the first player in college softball history with two 20/20 seasons, earned First-Team All-American Honors from Softball America.

Alexis Jensen made the All-Freshman team. She was selected as Big Ten Freshman of the Year before going 2-0 in the regional, allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out 12.

Nebraska baseball projected to host Regional

One of the goals for the Huskers has been to host a regional in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. After finishing second in the Big Ten with a 23-7 record, which featured eight series victories, as well as 41 total wins, Nebraska has been projected as the No. 13 seed (a host) by D1 Baseball.

Nebraska’s RPI is hovering right around 10. It has moved up as high as No. 9. With a possible path of Michigan (NCAA tournament team), Oregon (top-25), and No.1 UCLA, winning a third straight Big Ten Tournament title could lead to Nebraska getting a top-eight seed, or at least consideration, which would mean the ability to host a Super Regional, just like the Nebraska softball team.

That would be incredible. For More Nebraska content, follow us on Twitter, like our Facebook Page, and Subscribe to the Husker Big Red YouTube Channel.
