Welcome to the Big Red Rundown, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

After what was around a 19-hour delay from Thursday night to Friday, the Nebraska softball team got exactly the spark it needed from Jesse Farrell.

With the best pitcher in the country in the circle, Jordy Frahm, Nebraska softball wasn’t going to need to score many runs to beat Oklahoma State. The Huskers were going to need to score more than the seven combined runs they had in three games last weekend on their way to a 3-0 regional.

On Friday, they did it in one game. Farrell smashed a three-run home run to give the Huskers a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first that held throughout. Farrell drove in two more runs, and Nebraska eventually won the game 8-1.

Frahm allowed just one run while striking out eight in a complete-game victory. Frahm also had two hits, as did Hannah Camenzind. Ava Kuszak, Kacie Hoffman, and Bella Bacon drove in runs. Kuszak and Bland each had doubles.

Jordy got her 20th win of the season. One more home run would make her the first player to ever hit 20 homes runs and win 20 games in back-to-back seasons. No one has ever done it in more than one season.

The Cowboys ace, Ruby Meylan, lasted just two innings. She allowed eight hits and seven earned runs. She pitched 65 pitches. Frahm had 97, but the Huskers could start Alexis Jensen. Or, they could start Frahm again and see if can pitch them to the Women’s College World Series.

Game two is Saturday at 4 PM CST on ESPN2.

Three-star TE becoming a priority for Nebraska football

After commitments on back-to-back days from Loganville, Georgia players (Grayson), the Huskers got an official visit scheduled with another three-star tight end Joey Hunter.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end seems ready for college football. He’s ranked No. 848 overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, and Nebraska will get an official visit now with North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse getting the other visits.

Based on Geep Wade’s ties to the schools and the state, plus the recent commitments, and the need for a tight end, this feels like a perfect fit. The Huskers also made a new QB offer in 2028 that folks should pay attention to.

Nebraska baseball wins after midnight

There was a question about whether or not Nebraska baseball would get to play its quarterfinal game of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday night. In the end, the UCLA-Purdue game ended just in time, allowing the Huskers to knock off Michigan, 6-4, at approximately 2 a.m.

That win sends Nebraska to the Big Ten semifinals, while also extending the Big Ten Tournament win streak to 10 games. Case Sanderson was spectacular with a 3-for-4 effort that included a double, triple, and three RBI. Jeter Worthley also went 3-for-4, while Rhett Stokes added two hits, too.

Carson Jasa got the start and went six solid innings, allowing four runs on four hits.  Ty Horn pitched two scoreless frames in relief before J’Shawn Under shut the door in the top of the ninth.

Nebraska will play Washington or Oregon on Saturday at 6:03 PM on the Big Ten Network. A win sends the Huskers to the Big Ten title game for the third year in a row.
