Nebraska football was able to land a commitment on Wednesday from former Washington commit Keona Wilhite. It was officially announced on the program’s Twitter account earlier in the day.

Wilhite was connected to Nebraska football throughout the past couple weeks. Crystal Ball predictions started coming in for the defensive lineman on Saturday. He was originally predicted to go to UCLA on January 30. However, Nebraska really started to make a push over the last week or so.

Wilhite had 60 tackles in 13 games for Salpointe Catholic high school in Arizona. He had 18.5 tackles for loss. He also proved to be a stout pass-rusher, recording eight sacks on the season.

Wilhite will add to a defensive line that has become a source of strength of the program. Ty Robinson and Nash Hutmacher are locking the position down right now. Wilhite will be a key piece for the future, as Nebraska football looks to secure the trenches.

What could he bring to Nebraska football?

Wilhite will bring a doubt defensive presence to the line. He does a good job of collapsing offensive lines quickly, particularly against the pass. He uses his strength to win battles against his man, and is disruptive at the point of attack. His long, rangy arms allow him to be involved with almost every single play. That aspect of his stature also works in terms of leverage. He is able to win battles against his opponent fairly easily.

Wilhite was recruited to Nebraska by defensive line coach Terrence Knighton and defensive coordinator Tony White. Knighton and White have done a good job of developing both the defensive line and the defense over their first season and a half in Lincoln.

Currently, the Nebraska football 2024 recruiting class ranks 18th overall nationally per the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. The events of Wednesday have only strengthened this class. Nebraska football has done a nice job of putting a bow on the 2024 class, and continuing to address areas of need.

It will be exciting to see Wilhite on the field, as he is poised to be the next in a formidable line of talented defensive lineman. Nebraska football has a balanced recruiting class, one that is ready to take them to the next level.
