One of the things that fascinates me about the Nebraska football offensive line is Turner Corcoran.
The former top-ranked recruit from the state of Kansas has played a lot of football for the Cornhuskers, starting 31 games, including 30 in a row at one point. 28 of those starts have come at right or left tackle, while there have also been three at guard.
Last season, Corcoran was injured in his 30th consecutive start against Northwestern. He missed the final five games and Teddy Prochazka took over the starting tackle job.
Earlier this offseason, Matt Rhule said that Corcoran would start fall camp at left tackle. This was the same interview in which Rhule revealed that Corcoran was 100 percent ready for fall camp. There won’t be any restrictions according to the head coach.
That’s the good news. But now, where does Corcoran play?
Prochazka is 100 percent and truly healthy to start a season for the first time since 2021. He will be the starting left tackle as long as that remains the case.
Where will Turner Corcoran play?
I understand giving Corcoran the chance to compete there, but his best position is guard. He played tackle out of necessity, and while he can play tackle — if needed — he could be a really good guard. Here’s what Raiola said about his versatility in an interview with the Husker Radio Network:
“He’s back to full health and ready to go from his foot injury,” Raiola said. “He’s got what he needs to focus on and he’s doing great.” Position for Corcoran? “Turner could be both. … I always say Turner’s one of those guys. He could even play center. He has that ability. He has that mindset … But Turner could play guard, left tackle, right tackle – any guard. He’s a special player in that sense.”
Rhule said he feels like Nebraska football has more than five guys capable of starting on the offensive line and he’s right. Corcoran is a starter. But so is Justin Evan-Jenkins and Micah Mazzccua. They are all starting-caliber players and started games last season.
With Ben Scott, Bryce Benhart, and Prochazka are solidily locked in as starters, at least in my opinion, those other two spots will be a battle between those three players and also Henry Lutovsky. You also have some youngers that will figure into the mix as well.
But that top eight is pretty solid and really, Nebraksa football fans should feel good about the entire two-deep. For once, the Huskers have O-line depth and Corcoran is a big part of that.
At the end of the day, I still believe he’s one of Nebraska’s five best offensive lineman or he will be by the end of the season.
