The 2024 college football season is right around the corner and for Nebraska football fans, that means the start of a season we have all been waiting for since last December.
Ever since Dylan Raiola signed with the Huskers, it feels like the expectations have changed but not just because of him. Nebraska football has what should be an elite defense — one of the best in all of college football.
The defensive line should be stout, especially with the return of Ty Robinson and Nash Hutmacher. The entire defensive front is loaded which is a good thing because there are some concerns in the secondary.
Mainly, the second cornerback spot is a concern. Blye Hill’s injury didn’t help and neither did the fact that Ethan Nation left the team. But the good news is that Tommi Hill is one of the best cornerbacks in college football.
Where Tommi Hill ranks among the best cornerbacks in the 2025 class
That’s not just my opinion either — although that is my opinion — that’s coming from Phil Steele one of the top college football experts in the industry.
Steele puts out a preseason magazine every summer and it’s generally considered to be one of the best. He also ranks players and among the top 25 cornerbacks in college football, Hill, who earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten after four interceptions last season and 13 pass breakups, ranked 15th.
The 6-foot, 195-pound corner who started seven games for Nebraska last season, was ranked sixth among Big Ten cornerbacks and that might be taking Tommi Hill a bit lightly.
There will be more pressure on Hill this season but that’s why I love the addition of Ceyair Wright because if the Huskers could have two lockdown corners, plus Malcolm Hartzog and all of those safeties, the secondary might be good as the defensive front.
That’d be a scary thing for the rest of the Big Ten.
