Five-star offensive tackle David Sanders surprised some people when he included Nebraska football in his top four over the weekend.
Nebraska football did host the elite offensive tackle from Charlotte, North Carolina over Mother’s Day weekend and the Huskers did a stellar job. Sanders and his family even raved about the visit to Lincoln.
However, it has been hard for the Huskers to maintain that momentum. Sanders released a top six earlier this cycle and Nebraska football wasn’t in it.
The fact that Nebraska leaped over South Carolina and Alabama is a positive and some recruiting experts are saying that they shouldn’t be counted out with a decision date looming for August 17th.
Experts call Nebraska football a darkhorse for five-star recruit
Over at Rivals, Greg Smith and Adam Friedman tackled the topic of whether or not Nebraska football was a darkhorse in the race for Sanders’ commitment. They were asked whether it was fact or fiction and both said it was a “fact” that Nebraska is a contender for Sanders.
I said earlier this week that Nebraska will need to get him back on campus for a visit. The end of July opens up for visits and if Nebraska can get Sanders on campus, that would be a sign that they are a true contender.
Yet, Georgia, Tennesee, and Ohio State could also try to get him on campus. Steve Wiltfong said he favors Ohio State and Tennessee in this race, but also didn’t rule out Nebraska. Both Friedman and Smith talked about Dylan Raiola recruiting Sanders which is part of the reason he visited in the first place.
I’m not saying you should bet on Nebraska getting David Sanders, but it might not be as impossible as some of us think.
