It was a banner weekend for the Nebraska softball team.

The Huskers won the Big Ten Tournament championship, thanks to a come-from-behind win over UCLA. The Bruins grabbed a 2-0 lead. Jordy Frahm allowed a home run.

Yet, Hannah Camenzind changed the game with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the third. It plated two runs, and eventually scored another on an error, giving the Huskers a 3-2 lead.

From there, Frahm shut the door, tossing five scoreless innings to sweep the Big Ten titles. Nebraska has a 21-game winning streak. It was the ninth time Nebraska softball has won a conference regular-season and tournament championship in the same season.

Frahm, who won two of the three games in the circle, earned Most Outstanding Player. Ava Kuszak and Kacie Hoffman delivered home runs in the title, and nearly the entire team found a way to contribute.

Nebraska then received the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA softball tournament. The Huskers will host the regional and super regional in Lincoln if the team gets that far. 13th-seeded Oklahoma State did beat Nebraska this season in regular-season play. Washington also beat Nebraska this season, in non-conference action, so two teams in the region have beaten Nebraska this season.

The Huskers fell one game short of the Women’s College World Series last season. This time, they would need to lose twice on their home field for that to happen.

Nebraska’s journey to the Women’s College World Series starts on Friday with South Dakota. Grand Canyon will play eight-seeded (in the region) Louisville in  the other first-round game. Oklahoma State is the only other nationally seeded team in the region. Cowboys’ ace Ruby Melan is from Omaha. She’s 27-7 with a 2.11 ERA.

Nebraska baseball gets timely sweep

Carson Jasa set the tone on Friday night with seven scoreless innings. The Huskers dominated on Friday, rallied for a win on Saturday, and pulled off the sweep over Iowa on Sunday, giving the Huskers a perfect 15-0 record at home this season the Big Ten.

Nebraska is alone in second in the Big Ten (20-7). If they can win three of the next four games (Creighton and a three-game series against Minnesota), then hosting a regional is well within reach. Nebraska moved up to 15 in the latest RPI.

4-star target off the board for Nebraska football

Nebraska recently offered four-star linebacker Tate Wallace from Iowa. The Huskers made his top five and were expected to get an official visit before he committed to Minnesota on Sunday.

That’s how it goes sometimes with recruiting. The Huskers are expanding their board. We will have more on that in the coming days, but the most important thing is guarding the commitments of Trae Taylor and Tory Pittman, especially Taylor.
