The legend of Jordy Frahm continues to grow with Nebraska softball

Jordy Frahm has led Nebraska softball to its first-ever Big Ten championship, but the Huskers historic run is far from over.

When you have Jordy Frahm on your team, anything feels possible.

Just ask the Nebraska softball team.

The Huskers were a solid program before Frahm arrived. They were an NCAA tournament-caliber team. But with Jordy, this program has reached another level, the level of national title contender, something confirmed once again by the Nebraska softball sweep of Penn State on Saturday.

No, the Nittany Lions aren’t national contenders. But they still had a 4-1 lead with six outs to go from an upset over the second-ranked Huskers. Nothing was going Nebraska’s way. Then the bats got going. Frahm drove in the game-tying run. Eventually, Nebraska plated eight runs to erase a three-run deficit.

Then, Frahm, did what she does best, pitching two scoreless innings to shut the door on the Big Ten regular-season championship, the first ever for Nebraska softball.

Everything is on the table for Nebraska softball

Second-ranked Nebraska has much bigger goals than winning the Big Ten championship. Sweeping the tournament title would be great, too, but this season has always been about one thing: The Women’s College World Series.

Frahm has been there. She’s won national championships with Oklahoma. Nebraska hasn’t. At least not for a long time, 13 years to be exact. That was the last trip, and the Huskers have never won it all.

Nebraska softball was one win away last season from the Women’s College World Series. They dropped two straight games at Tennessee, which is why hosting the super regional is so important.

While Nebraska has plenty of talent beyond Frahm, the Huskers have nine all-region players on their roster. Yet, there’s no doubt that the softball version of Shohei Ohtani has been the driving force behind the Huskers’ incredible success. Over the past two seasons, Frahm has been named the No. 1 two-way softball player of the month six times.

Frahm has pitched 138 innings for Nebraska in 2026, but has allowed just 27 runs compared to 184 strikeouts. She’s 16-4 with a 1.26 ERA and also set the school record for 10 saves in a season. She’s got eight-complete games this season with a career mark of 86-15.

The most outstanding player of the 2023 Women’s College World Series, hasn’t just been dominant on the mound. She’s reached base successfully in 37 straight games, while batting .414. She leads the Huskers in average but also has 17 home runs, 31 extra-base hits, and 46 RBI this season. Her on-base percentage is .511.

There isn’t another softball player like her. It’s why Nebraska softball isn’t just thinking about the Women’s College World Series; it has to be thinking it can win it all. Oklahoma, Frahm’s old squad, will be standing in the way.

The top-ranked Sooners just won their second straight SEC championship. And Nebraska still has to make the Women’s College World Series, which is far from a forgone conclusion.

Regardless, the past two seasons have been beyond special. It’s hard to put into words what Frahm has meant to Nebraska softball, to Nebraska in general. She’s a transcendent athlete, and we might never see another player like her, ever again.
