3 bold predictions for Nebraska football against Ohio

The Huskers will play a night game for the first time this season as Nebraska football will host Bowling Green at Lincoln Memorial Stadium

Nebraska is a heavy favorite (29.5 points). Bowling Green was 4-8 last season. The Falcons are 4-9 under second-year head coach Eddie George, the same Eddie George who won the Heisman Trophy over Tommie Frazier.

This should be a cakewalk for the Huskers. The running game was electric against Ohio, but it can be even better. The offensive line can play better. Nebraska’s defense can be better, too.

Anthony Colandrea was as good as advertised last week. We told you earlier this week why Saturday’s game will be a blowout. Here are three bold predictions, plus our prediction against the spread.

Anthony Colandrea has a short night

This isn’t meant to disrespect the Bowling Green defense, but it allowed 464 yards to an FCS team last week, including a 66 percent completion rate, two touchdowns, and over 200 yards passing.

The Huskers will have plenty of success running the ball. Hopefully, they keep Colandrea from running it as much. If things go as planned, he will barely have to play in the second half. He still accounts for close to 200 total yards in the first half, which includes a long touchdown pass.

This offense just has too many weapons for a team like Bowling Green. Maybe Quinn Clark will make a big play. Nyziah Hunter is going to have a big game. It just feels like the offense will get humming early.

The offense will produce in the first half, like it did in the second half last week. Colandrea will barely play in the second half. That’s the kind of night it will be.

Huskers will run for 300 yards

Ok this is bold. However, Bowling Green allowed 7.8 yards per rush last week. The Falcons won’t be that bad this week, or for the entire season. Still, you can see Nebraska handing the ball to Jamal Rule, Mekhi Nelson, and Isaiah Mozee.

Rule will have his second 100-yard game. Matt Rhule challenged the offensive line to play better. They will, which is why Nebraska’s offense will hit the 300-yard mark. Yes, that means more than 500 yards total.

That feels like a lot, but welcome to the Anthony Colandrea offense.

First-half shutout

The defense was a lot better than people are giving it credit for. Rob Aurich’s Blackshirts allowed 12 yards or less on seven drives. There was one explosive play given up.

Aurich joked at his press conference that the Huskers will try not to give up another 68-yard play to open the game. With Owen Chambliss back, the defense should function better.

Bowling Green will eventually get on the board, most likely in the second half. There could easily be a scoring drive in the first half, but I’m going to predict a stellar effort for Nebraska, meaning zero points in the first half.
