Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule offered some really encouraging injury updates for the Minnesota game on Tuesday.
One of the biggest things to take away from Matt Rhule’s press conference on Tuesday is that Nebraska football is healthy ahead of the Minnesota game.
Rhule said that Marcus Washington and Teddy Prochazka were both going to make the trip to Minnesota for the game and would be available to play.
Washington has dealt with multiple injuries this camp and his presence is much-needed at the wide receiver position. Billy Kemp has been impressive in fall camp. But after Zavier Betts quit the team, it left Nebraska football without many proven veterans.
Washington is one. He’s the leading receiver on the team back from last season and is also one of the best deep threats on the roster. Alex Bullock has emerged and is expected to start for the Huskers. But having Washington back is huge and that wasn’t the only good injury news.
Teddy Prochazka will be available
I didn’t think Prochazka would be ready for the season opener but I’m glad I was wrong. Rhule said he would be available.
It’s also a great sign moving forward. Even if Turner Corcoran starts and plays well, Prochazka gives the Huskers another experienced left tackle if one is needed and that’s a better alternative than freshman Gunnar Gottula.
Prochazka is the best blindside protector on this team. He was a top-100 recruit for a reason and keeping him healthy for the entire season is essential. At the very least, Nebraska will now have three tackles with starting experience on the sideline for Thursday night.
Beyond this week, if Corcoran struggles, Nebraska football will have the option of putting Prochazka back in the starting lineup. It’s good to have alternatives like that, which weren’t available last season and despite all the injuries, Prochazka still has a bright future if he can keep himself healthy.
