Nebraska football tight end Arik Gilbert has been arrested on charges of burglary in Lancaster County.
Arik Gilbert, a Nebraska football tight end, was arrested on Tuesday for burglary according to the Lancaster Country Department of Corrections.
There aren’t many details about what happened but Inside Nebraska has the booking info of Gilbert that was published by Lancaster County after the arrest on Tuesday morning.
According to Mitch Sherman of The Athletic, Sherman robbed a Vape Shop in Lincoln and was apprehended with $1,672 worth of products.
The former LSU and Georiga tight end transferred to Nebraska football last January and has been waiting for a waiver from the NCAA in order to be eligible to play this season.
Matt Rhule has said the waiver should be granted, saying that if Gilbert wasn’t granted the waiver, then the waiver shouldn’t exist.
It’s hard to say how this could impact Gilbert’s future with the team. Yet, Rhule did say, he doesn’t judge people for what happens at their worst moments, instead, he looks at how they respond.
That was when the Bob Wager incident took place. Wager stepped down as tight ends coach after being arrested for a DUI. Rhule has been trying to establish a somewhat strict culture and he suspended Myles Farmer for the start of fall camp for “not meeting the standard.” Farmer later transferred.
Gilbert was a former All-SEC freshman after notching more than 300 yards receiving as a tight end in his first season of college football with LSU. That was in 2020. He transferred to Georgia but didn’t play at all in 2021 and saw action in three games in 2022.
It was looking like his waiver wasn’t going to be granted and there was no word as of Tuesday morning on his status. Regardless, that’s completely up in the air now.
