Nebraska football has put together a stellar 2024 class and in terms of 2025, the Huskers have lots of momentum.
Most of the focus in terms of Nebraska football recruiting is on the 2024 class. The Huskers have landed a ton of commitments since June and have 23 total.
They also have the 15th-ranked class right now according to the 247 Sports team rankings. Five of the 23 commitments are ranked as four-star prospects, and as I’ve said before, Daniel Kaelin, Isaiah McMorris, and Kewan Lacy are three — for starters — that have four-star potential.
Kaelin is a four-star recruit now according to the On3 Industry rankings, which are similar to the 247 Sports composite rankings, except for the fact that ESPN and Rivals aren’t given as much weight.
If Nebraska football can land some of its top remaining priorities in the 2024 class, there could be the chance of holding onto a top-20 ranking, especially with the Huskers in the mix for a top-100 running back, as well as a top-100 offensive tackle.
Nebraska has plenty of in-state momentum in 2025
Yet, the Huskers are also off to a hot start in the 2025 class. It’s been overlooked a little bit, but Nebraska football landed the commitment of Tyson Terry, the third-ranked recruit in Nebraska for 2025, as well as Caden VerMaas (No. 2 in the state).
VerMass is ranked No. 371 overall in the 2025 class, while Terry is 408th. Both should have a good chance to finish as four-star prospects.
Either way, the Huskers have two of the top three in-state recruits in the class of 2025 already locked down. They are also in a great spot with four-star Christian Jones, the No. 1 player.
Jones is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds out of Omaha Westside. He’s also ranked 140th overall according to the On3 Industry rankings, as well as No. 1 in Nebraska. Jones is 126th overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings and 61st overall via 247 Sports own rankings.
With his insane track and field numbers including a 10.89 in the 100-meter dash, it’s no wonder Matt Rhule and Nebraska football are about to give him the Carter Nelson treatment.
Christian Jones is a top priority in 2025
In terms of spring visits, Nebraska has the most with two this spring. Jones has visited campus five times total which is why Nebraska is the favorite for the in-state recruit according to the On3 prediction machine.
To his credit, Rhule has landed the top player in the state in each of the past two cycles, thanks to the recent commitment of Carter Nelson.
Jones has taken visits to Texas A&M and Kansas State. He also talked about his summer schedule with Bryan Munson of Husker Online.
There won’t be a shortage of opportunities since his offer list includes Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Stanford, and more.
Yet, Jones seemed impressed by the Huskers’ in-state recruiting efforts and it’s pretty clear to me that when it comes to Jones, Rhule won’t be out-worked.
Recruits can decide to head out of state for a number of reasons, so the Huskers won’t win every recruiting battle, but Rhule meant it when he talked about keeping the best players from Nebraska, in Nebraska.
So far, his efforts have paid off, and it has the Huskers in a position to land the top recruit in the state for the third year in a row.
