Five-star offensive tackle David Sanders, a top target for Nebraska football in the 2025 class, is announcing his commitment soon — on August 17th.
That means that teams wanting to host him for a visit before his commitment have just one chance to do so, which comes this weekend as the recruiting dead period opens for the final part of July.
Ever since Sanders announced a commitment date and included Nebraska football among his final four along with Ohio State, Tennessee, and Georgia, it was clear the Huskers needed to get him back to Lincoln.
If not, it’s hard to see Sanders committing, especially if he visits a program like Ohio State or Tennessee this weekend. Those are the favorites right now but Nebraska might be third.
There’s more buzz about the Huskers than there is about Georgia right now and according to Steve Wiltfong, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are having a “good dialogue” with Sanders as they try to get back for a visit.
“If Nebraska can get him to campus this weekend, I think that they’re having good dialogue, good conversations with the family behind the scenes,” Wiltfong said via On3.com. “I don’t think any of the other contenders are sleeping on Nebraska, when you’re talking about Ohio State folks, Tennessee sources, Georgia is the fourth finalist. But I think people are viewing Nebraska as a real contender here with a few weeks to go in the David Sanders sweepstakes.”
I take that as a positive update but if the visit doesn’t happen, I’d cross David Sanders off my list of 2025 targets.
Harper Murray status update with Nebraska Cornhuskers
Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star Harper Murray was given probation for driving while intoxicated this past summer. Murray had a couple of offseason incidents. She was also cited for shoplifting.
According to Husker Extra, “(Murray) is on pretrial diversion on a separate shoplifting case, which followed the DUI stop. In that case, she will be required to perform community service and stay out of trouble for six months. In return, prosecutors will dismiss the case.”
However, she’s moving forward with the Nebraska volleyball team according to head coach John Cook who said this to the Journal Star about Murray:
“Harper has been proactive in taking steps to take responsibility for her mistakes. This summer she has demonstrated through her commitment to community service and through her involvement in helping lead our youth camps that she is ready and willing to learn from this. Harper and her teammates are looking forward to our first practice on Aug. 5 and to playing in the AVCA First Serve Showcase.”
It’s been a tough offseason for the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, but it feels like things are back on the right track as the 2024 season approaches.
