Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

There are only a few targets left on the board for Nebraska football in the 2027 recruiting class. Two of them are coming off the board Monday — Khalil Taylor and Kamauri Whitfield.

Taylor is expected to choose Nebraska. He’s a top-100 wideout that would fill a major need. The Huskers want to pair an elite pass catcher with five-star QB Trae Taylor. Khalil Taylor would be exactly that.

Whitfield has started trending with Florida. The Gators are heavily favored, according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. There is also Ahmad Hudson, who is committed to LSU, but is a flip target.

Outside of that, it’s time to start looking ahead to the 2028 class. For Nebraska fans, one name to know is 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker Owen Price out of Grand Island.

Price isn’t ranked right now via the 247 Sports composite rankings, but he’s expected to be one of the top-ranked in-state recruits in Nebraska in the 2028 class. He’s already been offered by some of the usual regional programs such as Iowa, Kansas State, Minnesota and Maryland.

Others are sure to follow. Price was offered on a visit this summer. Nebraska wasn’t the first D-1 offer, but it feels like the most important. The 247 Sports crystal ball already favors the Huskers, which is a good sign looking ahead to 2028.

Will Bolt extended

After three consecutive seasons of making the NCAA Tournament, Bolt agreed to a contract extension with Nebraska baseball lasting through the 2032 season.

From Huskers.com: “Bolt has compiled 213 wins in seven seasons with the Huskers, which ranks sixth all-time in program history. Under Bolt, the Huskers have recorded three conference titles and three NCAA regional appearances while producing six All-Americans and 11 MLB draft picks, including seven Huskers drafted in the top five rounds.”

Additionally, assistant coaches Rob Childress, Lance Harvell , and Mike Sirianni have signed contract extensions, which run through the 2028 season.

All in all, this is great news for a program that has established itself as one of the best in the Big Ten, even as the former Pac-12 teams have taken over. The Huskers hosted a regional this season and won 43 games.

Nebraska football Hall of Fame Inductees

In case you missed it, the Huskers will honor six in the Nebraska football Hall of Fame. That list features Lavonte David, who still holds the Nebraska school record with 152 tackles. The Super Bowl champion will also be part of a class that features defensive back Charles Fryar (1980s era), offensive lineman Jim Scott (1990s), fullback Cory Schlesinger (1990s), I-back Cory Ross (2000s), and late punter Sam Foltz (2010s).

Schlesinger will always be remembered for his go-ahead touchdown run in the 1995 Orange Bowl, helping deliver a 24-17 win over No. 3 Miami, a team that had Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp on it, giving Tom Osborne his first national title.
