Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

According to multiple media reports, Nebraska football running back Mekhi Nelson was arrested in Florida on Monday on charges of aggravated battery, a felony.

Husker Online reported that Nelson was booked at approximately 12 PM EST. It also obtained this statement from the University of Nebraska:

“The Nebraska Athletic Department and football program are aware of the arrest of Mekhi Nelson in Florida. We have no further comment at this time.”

Rivals insider says Nebraska football has momentum with Khalil Taylor

It probably didn’t take an insider report to realize the Huskers are now the team to beat in the recruitment of four-star wideout Khalil Taylor (No.  82 overall). The touchdown machine (38 in the past two seasons), who runs the 100-meter dash in sub-11 seconds, is supposed to announce a decision on July 6th.
Chad Simmons, a Rivals recruiting insider, hinted that a decision could come sooner. Penn State is also still pushing, but Nebraska is in the pole position less than a week out from Taylor’s commitment.

Another recruitment is 50/50

Kamauri Whitfield is another target on the board. The 5-foot-10 nickel corner would be the final piece for the secondary. He’s expected to announce also on July 6th, and it’s still too close to call. The Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine favors Florida. It favors Nebraska for Taylor. We’ll see if those predictions are accurate.
Nebraska football fans would take that result if they were.
