3 bold predictions for the rest of Nebraska football’s 2027 recruiting class

Nebraska football has done a stellar job in the 2027 recruiting class.

The Huskers currently have 21 commitments. Nine of those are “blue-chip” prospects, rated as four-star recruits or higher. So basically, any four or five-star recruit is considered a blue chip.

That means 42 percent of Nebraska football’s 2027 class, led by five-star quarterback Trae Taylor, as well as top-100 commitments like Tory Pittman and Jordan Agbanoma. That has Nebraska ranked 17th in the team rankings via the 247 Sports composite rankings.

The Huskers haven’t signed a top-15 recruiting class since Bill Callahan was the head coach back in 2005. The Huskers are in contention to do that this cycle, and with signing day still five months away, but recruiting mostly wrapped up for college football programs, here are three bold predictions for Nebraska’s 2027 class.

Ahmad Hudson flips to Nebraska football

On Friday, Sean Callahan of Husker Online reported that the Huskers like where they stand with Hudson. There are a lot of positive vibes coming from the Nebraska side of things. This optimism hasn’t been met with any projections to flip by any recruiting experts, but the Huskers have a real shot to get the five-star tight end.

Trae Taylor has made a huge impact in the recruitment of Khalil Taylor. He has also played a role in Nebraska having a chance to land Hudson. Call me crazy, the former Battle of the Boneyard teammates will become teammates once again after Nebraska pulls off a major flip at some point in the next five months.

Huskers sign a top-15 class

Nebraska is just outside the top 15 in the 247 Sports team composite rankings. Anything in the top 25 would be solid for the Huskers, with most of the blue-chip recruits off the board at this point, across the country, it feels like landing the commitments of Khalil Taylor and Hudson would lock up a top-15 class.

Those pledges, if they happened, would give Nebraska 23 commitments with two five-stars and nine four-star recruits. That would be one hell of a class for head coach Matt Rhule.

Taylor is expected to choose Nebraska on Monday. Penn State isn’t expected to give up, though. The Nittany Lions will try to flip Taylor, like Nebraska is trying to flip Hudson.

The Huskers will succeed, though. Penn State won’t, which leads to the last bold prediction.

No flips

Some fans seem to comment after every commitment that the recruit will just flip, so what does it matter? So far, Nebraska has had one actual flip in the 2027 class, Kaden Howard, the three-star wideout who flipped to Georgia Tech.

Outside of that, Nebraska hasn’t lost any commitments in the 2027 class, and I wouldn’t expect it to. Khalil Taylor will have a strong NIL deal locked in, like Trae Taylor and the other elite commits in this class. That will make it more difficult for any program to flip Nebraska’s top recruits.

Miami and LSU were sniffing around Pittman. Texas A&M is still interested in Agbanoma, and Ohio State has already tried to make a run at Trae Taylor.

Those efforts might even ramp up in the fall, but the Huskers will hold them off and sign their first top-15 recruiting class in over 20 years.
