Nebraska football is trying to flip Cortez Mills in the 2025 class and he’s yet to make a final decision, plus more Cornhuskers news.

Last week, Nebraska football was able to flip four-star linebacker Dawson Merritt from Alabama, which was a huge recruiting win for Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers.

However, there have been indications that Merritt won’t be the final recruit to flip his commitment to Nebraska football before Early National Signing Day arrives.

Merritt has done some interviews and has hinted about two more flips coming. Four-star tight end Chase Loftin, from Omaha, has been projected to flip his commitment from Florida State by recruiting experts from On3 and 247 Sports.

Loftin visited for the UCLA game. Yet, he is also expected to visit Texas A&M and Missouri. That one may not be a done deal. Merritt sounded confident and another that he might have some confidence in is the recruitment of four-star wideout Cortez Mills.

Nebraska football flip target is undecided

Mills is 6-foot, 165 pounds, and ranked 114th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class. He’d be the Huskers’ top-ranked commitment but is currently pledged to Oklahoma. However, Chad Simmons of On3.com reported Tuesday that Nebraska football is still pushing strongly for a flip.

Simmons also noted that Mills would “make a decision” in the week before signing day, which is telling since he’s currently committed to Oklahoma. Mills is exactly the kind of home-run hitter that Nebraska needs on offense and with him clearly wavering on Oklahoma, it’s an ideal chance to flip another 4-star.

Nebraska volleyball set to take on Iowa

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will travel to Iowa (6 PM CST, BTN+) for volleyball on Wednesday. There are just four matches left in conference play. The Hawkeyes are up tonight and they have improved from last season when they posted an 0-20 record in the Big Ten.

Iowa has won four matches this season but is ranked 16th in the Big Ten in hitting percentage and 15th in the Big Ten in hitting percentage defense. The Huskers have excelled in both categories. Wisconsin is up on Saturday night after the football game, so Nebraska can’t look ahead, but as long as they play their game, it should be another Big Ten sweep.

Nebraska women’s basketball rolls, Natalie Potts injured

Nebraska women’s basketball jumped ahead of North Alabama 15-4 in the first quarter and never looked back on Tuesday night in an 85-48 win.

It wasn’t all good news though. Natalie Potts suffered what seemed like a long-term injury in the win. That’s something to monitor. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year played just 10 minutes.

Callin Hake came off the bench to score 17 points for the Huskers. She hit one 3-pointer and was 6-of-6 from the free throw line. She also had two assists and two steals.

Freshman Britt Prince added 13 points, three rebounds, and six assists in the win on 5-of-8 shooting. She did have three turnovers but made a trey, and notched two steals. Alexis Markowski managed 10 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Jessica Petrie delivered 14 points and five boards off the bench as Nebraska women’s basketball improved to 4-0.

The Cornhuskers will play Creighton on Friday at 4 PM CST on Flo Sports.
