Nebraska football is hosting a couple of tight ends this weekend — one in the 2023 class and a transfer. Both are now projected to commit.
What Matt Rhule was able to do with the 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class in such a short period of time was nothing short of amazing. And he might not be done yet.
I speculated that the Huskers would be active in the late signing period. However, that was before a really strong close that included signing Malachi Coleman, the top-rated recruit in the state of Nebraska and a top-100 prospect according to the 247 sports composite rankings.
Nebraska wound up signing 23 total commitments. They added to that when they added Cameron Lenhardt and Ethan Nation. Yet, the Huskers knew about those well before they came public.
With the numbers being what they were, Nebraska football doesn’t need a huge haul in the late-signing period but if the right opportunity presents itself, there is reason to strike and the Huskers have done that or are trying to with Ismael Smith Flores.
He’s a 6-foot-5, 210-pound tight end out of Arlington, Texas, and played for Nebraska tight ends coach Bob Wager. Ismael Smith Floes is a former basketball and is currently ranked 568th overall in the 2023 class according to the On3 consensus rankings. He’s also No. 32 in the state of Texas.
Wager offered him earlier this week and now he’s expected to take a visit to Nebraska football this weekend. Because of that, Ismael Smith Flores has received a slew of expert projections and has a 77-percent chance of winding up with the Huskers according to the On3 prediciton machine. Rutgers and Iowa are the other schools to watch. He took a visit to Rutgers before going to Nebraska this weekend.
In addition to Sean Callahan and Bryan Munson of Husker Online putting in prediction, On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman did the same which has me feeling confident.

Another tight end that is visiting Lincoln this weekend is former Georgia Bulldog Brett Seither. The 6-foot-5, 228-pounder is a former three-star tight end that has two years of eligibility. He was part of the 2019 recruiting class but didn’t play much at UGA.
Seither has just four receptions in his career and one touchdown but Georgia’s tight end depth chart has been off the charts so hard to judge him for that. He was a projected future NFL draft pick (rounds 4-7) coming out as a high schooler and he’s said to be a willing blocker.
His scouting report indicated he could have a future as a tight end as well as an H-back. With Marcus Saffterfield just talking about using the fullback, someone who can block, catch the ball, and split out wide would be a great addition.
Seither is visiting this weekend and Nebraska football is trending as the leader. He would be a huge get for the Huskers and before the weekend is over, let’s hope for more commitments.
