Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.
The fireworks keep on coming for Nebraska football on the recruiting trail. The Huskers landed their ninth blue-chip commitment in the 2027 class, and their eighth in the month of June on Tuesday night.
Jailen Hill, a 6-foot-2, 160-pound cornerback out of St. John Bosco in California, announced his commitment to the Huskers on Tuesday over Washington and Indiana.
Ranked No. 294 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings, Hill gives Nebraska another blue-chip cornerback in this class. Addison Williams has now landed four blue-chip prospects in the secondary, one year after signing five-star recruit Danny Odem (247 Sports).
The secondary for Nebraska football is going to be loaded in the future, especially if the Huskers can sign Tory Pittman. He did take an official visit to LSU, but no one seems overly concerned about the in-state commitment.
Nebraska football’s 2027 recruiting ranking trends up
What a difference a year makes. Last year, Nebraska football ranked 88th in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2026 class. The Huskers signed just three blue-chip prospects. In 2027, Matt Rhule’s program has tripled that number. Hell, the Huskers have more top-100 commitments in 2027 than they had four-star recruits signed in 2026.
You can see the difference Trae Taylor has made. Pat Stewart, the Nebraska general manager, has also made a major impact in this class. He doesn’t get as much credit, but behind the scenes, his work has been essential.
Following Hill’s commitment, Nebraska football ranks 15th in the 247Sports composite rankings. This won’t be the top-10 class that Husker fans wanted, but there is a lot of high-end talent, as well as some developmental prospects.
The Huskers found a really good balance of early contributors and players who should be fine developing for a season or two, before seeking playing time, meaning they shouldn’t jump into the portal right away.
That’s the perfect chord for Nebraska football, and it’s hard to argue with the results in the 2027 class. Nebraska is tied for 13th in blue-chip commitments, too.
Another pitcher added for Nebraska softball
Rhonda Revelle teased a couple of commitments this week on her X account. One of them came to fruition as former Ohio State pitcher Lorin Boutte has signed with the Huskers out of the portal.
Back in 2025, Boutte was stellar, making the freshman All-American team after a 21-9 season, striking out 127 batters in the process. This past season, she battled injuries and posted a 7-7 record with a 5.99 ERA.
The Huskers already added one of the best two-way players in the portal. Boutte will only serve to add more depth to a pitching rotation that will feature rising sophomore Alexis Jensen as the ace.
