Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

It feels like the quiet before the storm for Nebraska football on the recruiting trail as the Huskers prepare for their final official visit weekend of June, effectively of the 2027 class.

Recruits can take official visits during the fall. The Huskers hosted some 2026 recruits for fall official visits, but those are pretty rare. The focus on that point will be establishing the board for 2028 and getting those recruits on campus for Gameday visits.

There is some good news from a Nebraska perspective. Fresh off a visit to LSU, four-star safety commitment Tory Pittman, the top-ranked player in the state of Nebraska in the 2027 class, is expected back in Lincoln for his official visit.

That should reaffirm his pledge to the Huskers. Expect him to sign with Nebraska. A really bad 2027 season could always impact things, but not as much as people might think. Deals are already in place with most of these committed recruits.

Flips can still happen. They do, but the extent is exaggerated by fans, especially is this new era of NIL deals. Tim Verghese of Inside Nebraska went as far as to write that Nebraska football “neutralized” the threat of a flip with Pittman.

Another elite commitment for Nebraska volleyball

Nobody is recruiting on the same level as Nebraska volleyball head coach Dani Busboom Kelly. After landing two top-6 recruits in the 2028 class already this week, the Huskers landed the commitment of 6-foot-5 opposite Megan Hodges on Wednesday.

This comes on the heels of Shayla Rautenberg, who committed on Monday. She’s the No. 3 overall prospect in 2028 as a 6-foot-4 middle blocker from Milford. Josalyn Samuels, the fourth-ranked player, committed on Monday, too. She’s 6-foot-1 from Harrisburg, South Dakota.

Hodges is ranked No. 6. She can play middle and opposite. All three players are elite and likely capable of playing early for Nebraska volleyball. The problem is that the Huskers usually have one of, if not the deepest roster in college volleyball.

That will continue to be true if DBK keeps recruiting like this.
