The wait is finally over. Every Nebraska football fan knew that Dylan Raiola was going to be named the starting quarterback for the Huskers. But on Wednesday, it became official.

The official Nebraska football account on X posted that “Dylan Raiola will start at quarterback for the Huskers vs. UTEP.

There wasn’t some big announcement from Matt Rhule and the wording also made clear that Raiola is starting for the UTEP game.

I like that because Raiola and every single Nebraska football player need to earn their job every Saturday and every day in practice.

But Raiola has done that. Rhule has talked about him being a winner and earlier this week, he talked to Jim Rome about what makes the Nebraska football quarterback so special.

What makes Dylan Raiola special

“He has tremendous arm talent. He’s big; he’s physical. But it’s not until he gets here that you truly see what makes him special. He’s a tremendous teammate and works at it all day long. He is one of the first guys in the building and one of the last guys to leave and he’s humble. (Dylan) has humble confidence that exudes from him.”

Rhule also quoted Vince Lombardi and said that in order “to win, you need to put winners on the field”. Clearly, he views Dylan Raiola as a winner.

Now, we’ll see what the kid can do as the starting quarterback. As far as the rest of the room, I think we’ll see Heinrich Haarberg get some snaps as a “wildcat” quarterback. There could be some stuff designed for him as a runner, but I don’t see him playing much tight end.

It feels like the Huskers want him at quarterback just in case. He did win five games last season as a starter. Regardless, it’s official: The Dylan Raiola era has begun.
