Winning always helps you on the recruiting trail. So does having an elite quarterback and Nebraska football is starting to enjoy the fruits of Dylan Raiola.
And also the fruits of Matt Rhule as the Huskers looking like a team poised to compete for a playoff spot. I could be singing a very different tune next week. Colorado is no joke and it’s a test this team has to pass.
At some point, if you’re going to believe you’re a good football team, you have to beat a good football team or at least win a 50/50 kind of game. This Colorado game is that and the confidence will soar with a win.
Rhule sure seems confident though because he’s got a bunch of elite recruits coming to campus and not just in the 2025 class.
Breaking down a huge recruiting weekend for Nebraska football
Yet, the 2025 class will be our focus for now because there is so much to cover. It was reported by Steve Wiltfong that Christian Jones, who visited for the UTEP game, will come back for Colorado. The Huskers are battling Miami and Oklahoma for his commitment and he’s ranked No. 1 in Nebraska in the 2025 class.
Michael Terry was also expected to visit and he’s still on the schedule, along with another top-100 wideout (one of my personal favorites) Cortez Mills.
Wiltong also reported that Mills, an Oklahoma commitment, will visit this weekend. He’s already taken an official visit to Nebraska, just like Terry and Jones, and Dawson Merritt, the Alabama linebacker commitment, who will also visit according to Greg Smith of Rivals and other reports.
That’s an incredible visit list for the Huskers — one that also includes four-star QB Michael Clayton in 2026 (OK, I lied). But after watching this team play on Saturday, why wouldn’t you want to play wide receiver for Nebraska? Or quarterback?
The Huskers have something going on and this is just the beginning. Yet, if we dare to allow ourselves to dream just a little — a class with all four of those players committed would be insane.
Landing commitments from Jones and Terry (no small task) plus flipping Mills and Merritt would give the Huskers 10 blue-chip commitments. That’s playoff-level recruiting right there and while that’s a longshot and I’d be happy with one blue-chip commitment, Matt Rhule makes you believe in Nebraska football again.
That’s not nothing.
