On Wednesday evening, some Nebraska football fans might have noticed Terrance Knighton and some other Nebraska assistant coaches posting hints about positive news.
I wasn’t sure exactly what they were referencing. But, on Thursday, it became clear as the Huskers started trending with expert projections to land four-star EDGE Kade Pietrzak.
Pietrzak took an official visit to Nebraska football in June. However, Oklahoma felt like the favorite. The Sooners have the only crystal ball projection at this point.
Yet, Sean Callahan and Bryan Munson of Husker Online each projected Pietrzak to commit to the Huskers on Thursday and were joined by Derek Young, a national recruiting expert for On3.com.
Out of West Fargo, North Dakota, the 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end now has a 69.9 percent chance of landing with Nebraska football according to the On3 prediction machine.
Pietrzak is ranked No. 319 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. If the Nebraska Cornhuskers can land his commitment, he would be the fifth four-star recruit in the 2025 class for Nebraska football.
Nebraska Cornhuskers make top 14 for elite 2026 offensive tackle
A top 14 might sound a little ridiculous and it probably is, but Nebraska football still made the cut for the top 14 of elite 2026 offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell.
The 6-foot-7 300-pounder out of Missouri is probably the top target on the board for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2026 class. He’s out of Missouri and is ranked No. 3 overall in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, as well as No. 1 among offensive tackles.
Nebraska football has flirted with Brandon Baker and David Sanders, two elite tackle prospects in 2024 and 2025, but maybe with Cantwell, they’ll finally be able to land one, although there is still an outside shot that they could get David Sanders.
Nebraska was listed among the teams to watch by Tom Loy of 247 Sports along with Michigan, Missouri, Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama.
More reporting on roster limits that would impact Nebraska football
ESPN’s Pete Thamel had another update on Thursday about potential roster limits around college football. Thamel posted on X that the latest number being discussed is 105.
The ESPN reporter noted that the Big Ten, which obviously includes Nebraska football, wants bigger roster limits. Nebraska does a great job with its walk-on program and cutting the roster limit could hurt.
It would at least take away some opportunities and while it may not matter in the end, Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule is vehemently opposed to the idea of eliminating walk-ons, which roster limits would do.
