Nebraska football has gotten hot once again on the recruiting trail, landing their third 2025 commitment in the past five days as Jeremiah Jones, a dynamic athlete from Kentucky, committed to the Huskers on Monday.

Jones is listed as 6-foot-4, 200 pounds according to his 247 Sports profile, but some have reported that he is 6-foot-5 or even 6-foot-6.

Truly, the potential is through the roof. Jones run the 100-meter dash in sub 11 seconds and he has played both offense and defense. He could be a safety, a linebacker, or a wide receiver, and here are three thoughts on his commitment.

A potential NFL player

When Matt Rhule says that Nebraska football recruits NFL players, Jones is an example of what he’s talking about. Jones is ranked No. 598 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings but he can definitely develop into an NFL draft pick.

Jones could play multiple positions but you don’t see many players who are as big or athletic as him. Two years ago, Jones had five interceptions, and last season, he added two more in addition to scoring touchdowns as a runner and receiver and on defense.

Nebraska has been smart about building its roster and that will allow them to play Jones wherever he fits best over the next few years. The potential is through the roof though.

Another quality evaluation

Jones only has a few power-4 offers but Nebraska football offered last November. That’s how far back they identified Jones as a recruit they wanted as part of their program.

Florida State just had Jones on campus as part of their camp and he performed well. Maybe if he wasn’t as far along in his process, he could have gotten an offer from Florida State.

He still might. A few weeks ago, Jones was unranked. Now, he’s trending up and a near four-star according to the 247 Sports specific rankings. Once again, the Huskers were ahead of everyone on this one and that’s something that keeps happening — as Rhule pointed out recently.

A hybrid defender

It feels like the best position for Jones is that of hybrid defender. Tony White seems to love using versatile defenders. At times, last season, Matt Rhule said he didn’t even know what position players in the secondary were playing.

Jones has great ball skills. He has great speed and is a productive tackler too. If he’s big enough to play in the box — at least some of the time, he could be an elite defender. I’m thinking of a Jojo Domann.

Jones would be comfortable covering and the kid had seven interceptions during his sophomore and junior seasons. If he could add 20 pounds and maintain his speed, he could be a force, just like he could wind up as a four-star recruit by signing day.
