There has been talk that the spring transfer portal window is going to be “crazy.” It might already be true with the addition of Nico Iamaleava, but what does all of that mean for Nebraska football?

After listening to Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule or his offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, it doesn’t feel like a bunch of worrisome departures are coming.

While there will be plenty of players entering the portal — it’s already happening across college football — I don’t expect things to be as “crazy” as some of the pundits are suggesting. They never seem to be.

Good players will change teams, though. Will any leave or come to Nebraska?

In terms of players leaving, there are sure to be some. Nebraska football is well over the 105-man roster limit. We don’t know if that will even exist this season. Players could be grandfathered in, but with that question still up in the air, some players who might be on the bubble might decide to leave to guarantee a spot somewhere next season.

You can’t blame them. But I’m not expecting any players on the two-deep to leave. Nebraska just hasn’t had that happen very often (culture).

I do expect Nebraska to target some players in the portal. But they will be selective. You could make the case for a running back or maybe an offensive tackle, if one is available — maybe even a nose tackle type, but those guys don’t grow on trees.

However, my prediction is that the portal will be pretty boring for Nebraska. Maybe the Huskers will add a player or two, but the roster is mostly set, and that’s not going to change in the next two weeks.
