Thoughts on Nebraska’s latest commitment, more recruiting buzz

Nebraska football has landed commitment No. 17. Here are some thoughts, plus the latest recruiting buzz.

Nebraska football suffered a disappointment earlier this week on the recruiting trail when four-star wide receiver Matthew Gregory committed to UCLA.

The Huskers were projected as the favorite, and coming off his official visit to Lincoln last week, it felt like another top-100 commitment was in the bag.

Things can change quickly on the recruiting trail, though. And the Huskers quickly turned their attention to another target, 6-foot-3, 175 pound wideout Justyn Lindsay, out of Blue Springs, Missouri. He’s ranked 1,407 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Trae Taylor built a solid connection with Lindsay recently in 7-on-7. He earned an offer from Nebraska, then took an official visit. Iowa offered last June, but the recent offers have been non Power-4 programs.

Still, the Huskers wanted to add another receiver to the class. They have achieved that objective, although it’s clear they had to move down the board to do it. That being said, wide receiver wasn’t a massive need in this class. You always want to stack talent, but there is plenty of time to look to the 2028 class, the portal, or even a flip in 2027.

Lindsay isn’t the same caliber of recruit as Gregory. There’s no guarantee he will develop. Yet, his talent is worth taking a shot on, especially since Taylor likes throwing him the football. That’s worth something.

Another prediction for a flip

Nebraska football is now expected to flip Missouri commitment Caleb Green. The three-star linebacker is a tackling machine. He would be an ideal fit in the Rob Aurich defense with his ability to cover. He’s been credited with 210 tackles over the past two seasons.

Greg Smith of Rivals and Bryan Munson of Husker Online have each projected Green to flip after his official visit this weekend. That would be two commitments. Jailen Hill seems to be having a great time on his official visit, so that would be three commitments in the bag, with four-star OL Kyler Kuhn and three-star OL Barrett Kitrell also on campus. I could see the Huskers landing both of them, one, or none.

Kamauri Whitfield (CB) and Brennan Drummond (S) are also visiting. It’s not out of the realm of possibility for five or six players to commit, just like last weekend.

Nebraska currently has 17 commitments. Eight of them are blue-chip prospects (8/17), and the class is ranked 16th in the 2027 team rankings via the 247 Sports composite rankings.
