Nebraska volleyball sweeps Wisconsin again, closes in on Big Ten title

Nebraska volleyball sure does make it look easy. Facing off against Wisconsin, which has been a nemesis for the Huskers, Nebraska swept the Badgers for the second time this season, this time by the scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17.

For the second match in a row against Wisconsin, the Nebraska defense was the story, holding the Badgers to just .169 hitting. Sarah Franklin had 10 kills but she hit just .175. Only three others had more than five kills as the Nebraska volleyball back row was stifling.

The front row wasn’t bad either. Merritt Beason led Nebraska with 11 kills (.269). Rebekah Allick also had a big night with 10 kills (.667). Harper Murray did her part with nine kills and seven digs, while Bergen Reilly had 36 assists and three digs. Lexi Rodriguez had a team-high 16 digs.

All in all, it was a typical Nebraska performance. The Huskers are 28-1 and 18-0 in the Big Ten. Next up is Penn State (16-1 in the Big Ten). Nebraska can split the final two matches and get a share of the conference championship, but a win against Penn State (Friday) would clinch it outright.

The Huskers have beaten 11 ranked teams now and swept seven of them. Regardless of what happens in the final two matches, they are in line for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Beat Penn State and they could be the No. 1 overall seed, plus the outright Big Ten champions.

Penn State plays Washington on Sunday. If the Huskies pull off the upset, Nebraska will win the Big Ten title. If not, they will need a win on Friday to win it by themselves or at least a win next week against Maryland to ensure a co-championship.
