There are strong signs that Nebraska football has landed another commitment and the Huskers are now trending for Micah Mazzccua.
You have to love the social media activity of the new Nebraska football staff. The Huskers coaches are active and they are passionate.
They also leave plenty of breadcrumbs for Nebraska football fans to follow and Omar Hales did that again on Thursday night, tweeting out the fireworks that usually mean a commitment has been secured.
If the Huskers did land a commitment on Thursday, there’s only one person who it likely could be from and that’s former Baylor offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua.
Mazzccua is 6-foot-5, 335 pounds, and is originally from Philadelphia but played his football at St. Frances Academy in Maryland before going to Baylor as part of the 2020 class. Mazzccua played over 700 snaps last season at left guard and saw action in nine games in 2021, so he’s got two years of eligibility.
The former three-star recrut would add another experienced player and some valuable depth along the offensive line. One lesson that should have been learned from last season is that you need 8-9 guys capable of starting up front. Nebraska football didn’t have that in 2022 and it cost the Huskers dearly.
In addition to the tweets from Hale, Matt Rhule, and Evan Cooper earlier on Thursday, Sean Callahan and Bryan Munson have both put in expert projections for Mazzccua to land with the Huskers. Their confidence level was 65 out of 100 and the On3 prediction machine sees the Huskers as a heavy favorite (97 percent chance).
Another transfer trending another way
While that would be good news, Nebraska football seems to be falling out of the mix with transfer tight end Jake Roberts. Arkansas has emerged as the new leader according to the On3 prediction machine with Oklahoma sitting in second place right now.
The Huskers offered and he talked about visiting, so it’s not over yet. There are still almost two weeks left in this transfer portal window, so a visit is still possible.
However, Nebraska may need to explore some other tight-end options in the transfer portal because Roberts, seems to be sticking in the Southwest.
Malachi Coleman turning heads still
On the third day of practice at the All-American Bowl, future Nebraska football player Malachi Coleman continued to stand out. There are videos of Coleman making some contested catches and frankly, it has me salivating for the time when he’s wearing the N on his helmet.
Coleman is going to be special and honestly, because he’s from the state of Nebraska, his talent might be a little underrated. I’ll definitely be watching to see what he does in the game on Saturday, but the positive reports about him standing out in practice and specifically mentioning his route-running are a very good sign.
I’ve said he’s going to make a big impact right away for Nebraska football and I feel even better about that prediction following this week.
