Nebraska football should be adding another 2023 commitment this week as National Signing Day looms from D’Andre Barnes.

It was easy to predict that Nebraska football was going to be aggressive in recruiting in the late signing period but it now looks as though the Huskers could land a total of five players on National Signing Day.

Last year, we saw teams with first-year head coaches landing a bunch of recruits in the late period and Nebraska football has been very active. Two weekends ago, the Huskers hosted four 2023 recruits for official visits and have landed commitments from all four.

The Huskers signed 23 recruits during the early period, although Cameron Lenhardt and Ethan Nation didn’t announce their signing until the All-American Bowl. Nebraska has added four commitments since then and D’Andre Barnes is expected to join the 2023 class too.

Barnes is a new name on the recruiting board for Nebraska football but he took an official visit to Lincoln this weekend and came away with an offer. Now, the three-star cornerback, according to 247 sports, which also ranks him as the No. 10 player in the state of Colorado, is trending with projections to the Huskers.

D’Andre Barnes commitment is now expected for Nebraska

The Huskers are the overwhelming favorite via the On3 prediciton machine to land Barnes, who is 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, and another track athlete. He runs the 100-meter dash in 10.69 and also the 200-meter dash in 21.49.

Barnes has played both wide receiver and defensive back in high school but it looks like the Huskers want him as a defensive back. He notched two interceptions over the past two seasons and also returned multiple kickoffs for touchdowns in his high school career.

Barnes has mostly been offered by Mountain West programs but BYU did offer him on Jan. 18. However, Nebraska took the step of getting him on campus and it looks like he will be the 28th member of the 2023 recruiting class.

That would bring Nebraska to well over 100 scholarship players as we head into winter workouts and spring football. The recruiting dead period is now in effect, so Matt Rhule and the coaching staff will be in Nebraska for a bit.

However, the Huskers took advantage on their time on the road as well as anyone. Rhule visited over 100 high schools in the state of Nebraska and on Wednesday, the finishing touches will be put on an impressive 2023 haul.
