Nebraska Football has been hot on the recruiting trail lately, and they continued the momentum with a commitment from 2024 running back Kewan Lacy.

Lacy is a three-star running back. He is rated 87 overall numerically, and has gotten some ratings bumps over the past couple weeks. He last received one in April, where he was bumped up to an 88.

Nebraska beat out several schools for his recruitment. Ole Miss and Baylor were two of the programs that were most involved. However, this coaching staff was able to get the job done. The running back was at Nebraska this weekend, and there was some smoke as to whether or not he would be coming. Matt Rhule sent out a tweet, but it was quickly deleted.

He was recruited to Nebraska by running backs coach EJ Barthel. Wide receivers coach Garrett McGuire served as the secondary recruiter.

What can he bring to Nebraska football?

Lacy will be able to bring a punishing running style to Nebraska. He runs downhill very well, and uses his strength to be able to break tackles. Catching the football is also a strong suit of his, as he is able to use his speed and make things happen after the catch. Bubble screens are something that he executed well in high school, and he proved his worth as a receiver.

Lacy is a north-south runner, and has good field of vision. He can find holes quickly, and that allows him to immediately get to the second level. He does not go down easy, and uses his agility to follow blocks and evade defenders. Lacy has the type of running style that will work in the Big Ten. That physicality will suit him well, particularly in the trenches.  This is exactly the type of running back Nebraska football needed.

Lacy performed well last season for Lancaster High School. He had 956 total yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023. He was coming off a season in 2021 that saw him record 1,352 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. To put it simply, he can produce.

Nebraska football needed to get a commitment for the running back room. This was a position that was concerning from a recruiting standpoint, as they had no developmental pieces. Lacy now fills that void.

More good news on the way?

Currently, the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 19th in the country per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. That number could get even better over the course of this week. Carter Nelson is set to announce his decision on Wednesday.

Overall, this has been an impressive month of June for Nebraska football. They have tallied 11 commitments in the month of June alone. This has been a truly incredible pace for the program, and they are not done yet.
