Nebraska football hosted four-star tight end Carter Nelson this weekend along with QB commitment Daniel Kaelin.

It was easy to see that the commitment of Daniel Kaelin to Nebraska football was a big deal. It kept the top quarterback in the state home in the 2024 class and as we are starting to see, it could have a real impact on in-state recruiting.

Kaelin is well known throughout the state and his top wide receivers, Isaiah McMorris and Dae’vonn Hall are both top targets for the Nebraska football. They will each take official visits on the weekend of June 23rd, along with Kaelin and Carter Nelson.

Nelson is unquestionably the top recruiting target on the board. He’s ranked No. 1 in the state as well as 119th overall in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder is also ranked eighth among tight ends.

As reported by Husker Online and other outlets, Carter took an unofficial visit to Nebraska football on Saturday and was hosted by Kaelin which is an important development of the Huskers.

Why Carter Nelson’s visit means for Nebraska

Any time Nebraska can get Nelson on campus it’s a win. Auburn, Alabama, Notre Dame, Georgia, and others are strongly in the mix. Georgia did just take two commitments at tight end in the past week.

So it seems like the Bulldogs are fading a little bit. Nelson is scheduled to take his first official visit there next weekend and we’ll see what happens after that.

The Ainsworth product will also take a trip to Notre Dame as well as Nebraska football. It sounds like a decision will come sometime this summer but it’s been a hard recruitment to read.

There haven’t been any crystal ball predictions or expert projections yet for Nelson. But this unofficial visit is a good sign and so is the fact that Kaelin and the elite tight end seem to be developing a rapport.

“That’s obviously the top-ranked guy in the state,” Kaelin said told Husker Online. “We want to keep him home for sure. Some of the coaches told me he was coming up. I text him all the time. We are pretty close. I’m sure if he lived in the area, we’d be even closer. They told me he was coming up and I knew I could fit it in before this (QB) camp. I’ve already been texting and Facetiming a bunch of recruits. Whether it’s in-state or out-of-state. I told them I want to be at every official visit weekend and at least stop by once. Any guys coming up, I want to be there to help the staff recruit because I know how much time they put into it.”

I love hearing this from Kaelin but I’m also not surprised. You can tell how much this program means to “Danny Dimes” and that’s why I love that he’ll be the Huskers’ starting quarterback someday.

And hopefully, if his recruiting pitch works, Kaelin will bring Nelson, McMorris, and Hall with him.
