The Nebraska football program needed to win a big game and for now, beating the Colorado Buffaloes 28-10 will do.

Things snowballed on Colorado early as Nebraska looked as good as it has in years in the first half. The second half was a different story, but after the past seven years, it’s hard to complain about anything.

Highlights from Nebraska football win over Colorado

Nebraska football couldn’t have started the game any better. The Huskers forced a three-and-out and eventually found the end zone on a touchdown run by Dante Dowdell.

Dylan Raiola had a key first down run on the drive and soon enough, Nebraska football would be up 14-0 after a pick-six from Tommi Hill.

An absolute dart down the field from Raiola a couple of drives later, as well as a tremendous adjustment from Jalen Lloyd, set up Nebraska inside the five for another Dowdell touchdown run, making it 21-0.

Then, in a two-minute drill, Nebraska capped a near-perfect half with a Rahmir Johnson touchdown reception that saw the Huskers get a fortunate bounce — one they deserved over the past seven years.

Nebraska even blocked a field goal in the first half as the Buffaloes were shut out. It took a whole quarter for Colorado to even get a first down and frankly, the first half was a nightmare for Shedeur Sanders who got hit on just about every pass.

In the second half, the defense continued to dominate. The offense stagnated. Nebraska got multiple possessions in Colorado territory and wasn’t able to come away with any points. There were way too many penalties and busted plays.

However, Dylan Raiola also avoided a turnover, as did the entire offense outside of a blocked punt with about seven minutes left. The fourth-and-inches stop by Nebraska early in the fourth quarter summed up the entire night — one team was simply tougher than the other.

Colorado had two plays to get one yard and went backward. Nebraska owned the trenches, just like they did back in 1994 — a team that was honored on Saturday night for their national championship — and here are the gut reactions to a massive win for Nebraska football.

Gut reactions to Nebraska football win over Colorado

  • Dante Dowdell is RB1.
  • It’s amazing what Rahmir can do when used properly.
  • This Nebraska football D-line reminds me of the good old days.
  • The offensive line played well but has to clean up the penalties.
  • The Blackshirts are fun to watch. They do everything you want and they fly to the ball.
  • The second half was sloppy. At times, it was even ugly.
  • Colorado could have been called for offensive holding on every snap including the Tommi Hill pick-six. These were blatant jersey grab holds.
  • Dylan Raiola wasn’t perfect but his decision-making damn-near was. He sure doesn’t play like a freshman.
  • Another reminder that the second-half execution on offense was atrocious. This team still has work to do to be in the “playoff” conversation.
  • The special teams were a mixed bag but probably a net positive.
  • It was torture sitting through the second half. The refs stole the show.
  • A strip sack was the perfect way to end the night. Nebraska had six sacks total.
  • Nearly all of my pre-game predictions came true. We haven’t been drinking the Kool-Aid, folks. Nebraska football is a good team.
  • Throw the bones.
