Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska football still has a shot at flipping five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, according to what the elite 2027 recruit told Rivals this week.

There has been a lot of buzz on the Nebraska side of things that the Huskers like where they stand. Matt Rhule’s program will need to have a good season on the field, but with one of the best recruiting classes in decades built, even before the flip of Hudson, there are reasons for optimism.

“We’re taking our time and making sure we’re doing what’s best for me,” Hudson told Sam Spiegelman of Rivals.

He also said this about Nebraska: “Just the relationships I’ve built with the coaches and how genuine they’ve been with me, my mom and my brother through the whole process,” he said of their efforts. “They have stayed consistent and made it clear how much they believe in me and how they see me fitting into what they’re building. My mom and I have a lot of respect for them, so we’re just taking our time with everything.”

It’s not a guarantee. Far from it. LSU is the favorite to hold onto his commitment. Yet, the Huskers have given Hudson something to think about, and the fact that he hasn’t shut things down is a big positive at this point.

If Hudson comes back for a Gameday visit this fall, Husker fans can start to believe.

Anthony Colandrea gets no respect

Ari Wasserman, a college football analyst for On3, ranked the top 10 quarterbacks in the Big Ten on Tuesday. Colandrea, Nebraska’s expected starter, didn’t make the list.

There are some young players like Bryce Underwood and Malik Washington ranked ahead of him, which is debatable considering he was the Mountain West Player of the Year. The Big Ten is a deep league, so it’s hard to have complaints.

But, with just 18 teams, the Huskers need Colandrea to be one of the 10 best quarterbacks, or a winning season might be a tall order.
