Nebraska football running back Emmett Johnson closed the season on a strong note under new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, which made his departure to the transfer portal disappointing (at the time).

It would have been exciting to see what he could do under Holgorsen, with the former head coach coordinating the offense for the entire 2025 season.

On Sunday, Husker fans got their wish as Johnson reversed course, announcing that he would withdraw his name from the transfer portal to remain with the Nebraska football team. It sounds like Holgorsen did some recruiting in the background or maybe the Huskers upped the NIL offer.

Either way, I’m just glad Johnson, who led the Huskers in yards from scrimmage last season, is back in the fold, especially after averaging 128 total yards over the past three games.

Johnson had 809 all-purpose yards this season including 523 on the ground on 102 carries. Dante Dowdell is also expected to return for Nebraska football. The running game could be more productive but did look better down the stretch and unless things change again, as the transfer portal opens on Monday officially, the Huskers will have their top two rushers back in 2025.

Nebraska fooball selected for the Pinstripe Bowl

Fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers aren’t thrilled about the destination, but the bowl drought is officially over after Nebraska football was selected to play in the Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College on Sunday.

The Eagles are 7-5 and won their last two games, as well as three of their last four to reach the postseason. Nebraska has opened as a slight favorite (4.5 points) for the December 28th bowl game played inside Yankee Stadium.

It’s not as glamorous as Tampa Bay or Nashville in December, but it’s a winnable game and one that the Huskers need to clinch a winning season.

Nebraska women’s basketball rolls in Big Ten opener

The 25th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball team cruised to a 1-0 mark in Big Ten play following an 84-65 win over previously undefeated Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers hadn’t allowed any teams to reach 60 points. They were allowing opponents to score just 46 points per game, but Nebraska women’s basketball had a field day scoring 84 points.

The Cornhuskers made 12 3-pointers and had four score in double figures led by Alberte Rimdal with 12 points. Alexis Markowski added 11 points and nine boards, while Callin Hake hit three times from beyond the arc to finish with 11.

Britt Prince had seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and led the team in plus/minus (+21). She wasn’t the only freshman standout for Nebraska though as Amiah Hargrove scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in just 14 minutes. The 6-foot-2 freshman also went 2-for-2 from deep.

Next up for Nebraska (8-1) is Tarleton State on Wednesday at 7 PM CST at the Vault.
