Nebraska football

It was a busy weekend for fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska football players stood out at the NFL combine, led by Thomas Fidone and Ty Robinson.

The Nebraska basketball team also suffered a crushing loss to Minnesota. Nebraska’s women’s basketball team crushed Northwestern thanks in part to 30 points and eight rebounds from senior Alexis Markowski.

The women are likely headed to the NCAA tournament. Nebraska basketball is on the bubble on the men’s side. Nebraska is still among the last four teams projected to make the field, according to ESPN, but Tuesday’s game against Ohio State is now a must-win.

At the NFL combine, one NFL draft analyst even compared Fidone, the Nebraska football tight end, to the Terminator. The production did improve over the past two seasons. Fidone caught 36 passes last season for 373 yards, but the former Nebraska football player still has a lot to prove.

Yet, it feels like Nebraska football could have as many as five players drafted in April. Robinson is a no-brainer, but Fidone, Tommi Hill, Nash Hutmacher, and Isaiah Neyor, who also helped himself at the combine, all have a good shot to get drafted.

Nebraska football commitment offered by Oregon

CJ Bronaugh recently got upgraded to a four-star recruit. The Nebraska football commitment is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2026 class, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that Oregon has jumped into the mix with an offer, which came on Friday.

This probably won’t be the last big-time program to offer the Nebraska football pledge. Bronaugh runs the 100-meter dash in 10.3 and has elite ball skills. He’s also 6-foot-1.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers hit a home run with Bronaugh, as long as they can hold his commitment until signing day.

Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball/softball roundup

The Nebraska baseball team opened the weekend with a win over Sam Houston State on Friday but followed it up with back-to-back losses to LSU and Kansas State.

LSU is the second-ranked team in the country, so there’s nothing to be ashamed of. Nebraska baseball built a 5-0 lead. Cael Frost had another stellar day at the dish, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Yet, the pitching didn’t hold up. LSU plated three runs in the fourth and six more in the sixth inning. Ty Horn allowed four runs on eight hits. Carson Jasa was credited with the loss after allowing three runs in one inning of work in the 11-6 defeat.

On Sunday, Kansas State built an early lead and hung on for the 9-6 win. The Huskers (4-5) got a solid day at the plate from Dylan Carey, who was at least 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and two RBI.  Jackson Brockett got the loss after allowing two runs on three hits and four strikeouts in two innings.

Omaha is up next for the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team. That will be a road game on Tuesday at 5 PM CST.

In softball, Nebraska (15-6) finished up a 3-2 weekend with a 10-9 win over Missouri. Jordy Bahl got the win after allowing seven earned runs and striking out nine. She also retired the heart of the Missouri order in the seventh to avenge a 7-1 loss on Saturday. Nebraka also won 15-0 against Wichita State on Sunday thanks to a shutout on the mound from Bahl, who has eight wins total.

At the plate, Bahl helped herself with a three-run homer in the second inning. Hannah Zamenzind also had a 2-for-4 day, drove in two runs, and hit a home run. Olivia DiNardo pitched in with two hits and three RBI. Next up is Northern Colorado on Saturday at 2:20 and 5 PM CST.
