Major commitment in 2027 class is one thing Nebraska fans can feel good about

Nebraska football landed a big-time commitment on Sunday night, which is at least one thing to feel good about.

Perhaps it’s my imagination, but it feels like a significant portion of the Nebraska football fan base is disgruntled.

The Huskers are coming off back-to-back 7-6 seasons. Looking ahead to the 2026 schedule, Nebraska football fans don’t have a ton of reason for optimism, although head coach Matt Rhule said the team was excited about the schedule, or at least the team was “tired” of hearing about it.

Rhule looks worn down. Nebraska will do that to you, or the pressure that comes along with being the Nebraska football head coach will.

The head coach entering his fourth season has made progress. Anyone saying he hasn’t isn’t thinking clearly. But has he made enough progress?

That’s an interesting question. We’ll know more after this season, and the next one. Fans might not like it, but Rhule isn’t going anywhere, not after this season.

And based on the 2027 recruiting class, that’s a good thing. The Huskers have a solid group that got even better with the commitment of four-star Corey Hadley on Sunday night.

One bright spot for Nebraska football fans

Hadley is ranked 95th overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety is out of Tyrone, Georgia. Georgia Tech and Mississippi State were the other contenders at the end, but the offer list includes Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Miami, and many others.

Hadley is also the third top-100 commitment in the class, along with Trae Taylor and Tory Pittman. There are eight commitments total. Four of them are blue-chip prospects (50 percent), which is right where Nebraska needs to be.

If Nebraska signs 20 recruits, about 10 need to be blue-chip prospects. Addison Williams continues to shine on the recruiting trail. He might be Nebraska’s top assistant. It also reinforces the decision of Rhule to keep him on staff when he hired Rob Aurich as the defensive coordinator,

I know Nebraska fans aren’t fond of celebrating recruiting wins. Rhule has had many of those that didn’t end up coming to fruition, such as Dylan Raiola, although the QB did lead the Huskers to back-to-back bowl games.

The best news is that while some Nebraska football fans don’t believe in what Rhule is selling, recruits still do. For now, that’s one reason to hope the head coach can still deliver on his promises.
