Nebraska football fans were hoping that the Huskers would land a commitment this weekend and they did, it just wasn’t a pledge that was expected.

Grant Brix, an elite 2024 offensive tackle was rumored to be deciding soon, maybe even this weekend. But Nebraska football instead landed the commitment of 2025 running back Conor Booth after he was offered by the Huskers back in June.

Booth isn’t ranked right now in the 2025 class according to On3.com or the 247 Sports composite rankings. However, the 6-foot-1, 216-pound back out of Wahoo, Nebraska, is a nice get, and here are three quick thoughts on his commitment to the Huskers in the 2025 class.

What is Nebraska getting?

Booth has been highly productive and rushed for 964 yards last season as well as averaging 13 yards per attempt. He’s productive but he also has upside.

In his first game of the 2023 season, Booth once again showed his ability by rushing for 130 yards on just 12 attempts. He averaged 10.8 yards per carry and regardless of his ranking, Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football team are adding a playmaker.

Booth only has five receptions over the past two seasons, but he had four for 100 yards last season, so that seems like another skill that can be developed.

A key position of need addressed by Nebraska football

In terms of the big picture, Nebraska football only signed one running back in the 2023 class in Kwinten Ives and has just one committed in 2024 — Kewan Lacy.

Now, I love Kewan Lacy. He’s totally a bell-cow in my opinion, so I’m not overly concerned but the Huskers need at least two running backs in 2025, maybe even three.

So adding Booth is a good start. Some fans will complain about him being unranked. But truth be told, he’ll probably be ranked as a three-star in a matter of days by at least some of the recruiting services who probably haven’t scouted him all that much.

More in-state momentum

Booth is the third in-state prospect committed in the 2025 class and third overall. Tyson Terry and Caden VerMass, two of the top five in-state recruits in 2025 (via 247 Sports) both committed early.

Nebraska has been working hard to add in-state linebacker Christian Jones, the top-ranked player in the state in 2025 to the mix and he’s talked openly about how the in-state momentum matters to him.

Adding Booth isn’t necessarily going to impact Jones or anything, but it’s another sign that Matt Rhule values in-state talent, even if the recruiting services don’t. Booth is technically a fullback according to the Columbus Telegram and scored 20 total touchdowns last season.

Nebraska will use him as a running back and Booth will be another investment in the power running game that Rhule wants to bring back to Lincoln.
