Nebraska football needs two more wins to reach bowl eligibility but after a 28-10 win over Purdue on Saturday, things are looking up for the Huskers’ bowl hopes.

However, the schedule isn’t looking nearly as favorable as we thought at the start of the season. The next three opponents are undefeated: Rutgers, Indiana, and Ohio State. The next three weeks will tell us a lot about this 2024 Nebraska football team.

The last four games aren’t easy either with road trips to Iowa and USC along with home games against UCLA and Wisconsin. I’d love to see Nebraska get at least one win over the next three games. Then, they would need just one down the stretch to get to six.

People were talking about 9-10 wins to start the season. That’s still possible. Nebraska can win every game on the schedule, probably outside of Ohio State, but it could lose every one too. The Huskers are a flawed team, but they are on the rise and Saturday reinforced that.

It wasn’t pretty but it was a positive step. Afterward, ESPN (two analysts projecting) has Nebraska going to the Mayo Bowl and Reliaquest Bowl. ESPN has the Huskers facing Ole Miss in the Reliaquest Bowl and Duke in the Mayo Bowl.

CBS Sports has Nebraska football also playing Ole Miss but that’s in the Music City Bowl. Athlon Sports also has the Huskers projected to face Trev Alberts and Texas A&M in the Reliaquest Bowl.

Nebraska volleyball sweeps another ranked opponent

The Nebraska volleyball team improved to 12-1 on Sunday night with a three-set sweep over USC on Sunday (25-18, 25-22, 25-16), which gave the Cornhuskers their sixth match win over a ranked opponent. The last four wins have been sweeps.

Defense was the story once again for the Huskers. It’s easy to get lost in all the incredible hitters up front, but the defense is why this team dominates and held USC to a .137 hitting percentage.

Harper Murray started slowly in terms of attacking, without a kill in the first set. Yet, Murray notched nine kills in the second to finish with 12. Merritt Beason added 11 kills. Bergen Reilly was smooth as usual with 33 assists. Lexi Rodriguez was stellar too with 13 digs.

No. 2 Nebraska volleyball (12-1, 2-0) will play again at Illinois on Thursday at 6 PM CST (Fox Sports 1).
