Should Nebraska Football push for 2023 QB Jaden Rashada?

Nebraska football didn’t sign a quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class but there is still time to change that. What about Jaden Rashada?

The 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class keeps getting better under Matt Rhule and the Huskers likely aren’t finished adding to it.

However, there could be an addition that wasn’t expected. It’s not anywhere near likely or expected at this point, but it was newsworthy that Nebraska football was among the teams that have reached out to Jaden Rashada, the former Florida signee and five-star QB (according to 247 sports).

In the 247 sports composite rankings, Rashada is ranked as the No. 80 overall prospect and the No. 7 QB in the 2023 class. Rashada is 6-foot-4, 175 pounds, and is a really talented passer, drawing comparisons to former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff.

Yes, Rashada is tainted a little after the Florida debacle. At first, he was committed to Miami and then flipped to Florida where he signed on early signing day. However, Rashada never made it to campus.

The top-100 QB was supposed to have a $13 million NIL deal in place but the money reportedly wasn’t there and the whole thing fell apart. Florida granted him a release from his scholarship and now it’s open season.

Rashada has taken a trip to Arizona State and will visit TCU this weekend. Washington, California, South Carolina, and Utah are also in the mix as is Nebraska football according to a new report from On3.

Why Nebraska football should make a run

The No. 1 reason not to is that the Huskers are hoping to land Dylan Raiola in the 2024 class. However, I don’t know how realistic that is, especially with Georgia making a push. The Bulldogs, like the Huskers, haven’t landed a 2023 QB yet, but UGA does have a top-200 prospect committed in 2024.

Nebraska football doesn’t and if the Huskers have a legitimate chance at winning the commitment of Jaden Rashada, they should take their shot. He’s a really talented player and while he might seem like a headache, once you get him on campus, he could be a superstar.

NIL is probably going to be a factor in his recruitment, but Nebraska can excel in that area if it gets things figured out. It probably would make things more difficult with Raiola, but if the staff does go all-in for Rashada, which I don’t really expect, it might tell us they aren’t all that optimistic about Dylan Raiola in the 2024 class.

Either way, it’s a development to watch in the coming days as Rashada could take his recruitment past signing day. Contact doesn’t mean much either. If he visits or the staff visits him, then it’s game on.
