Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

One surprise on the Thursday injury report for Nebraska football ahead of Saturday’s game against Maryland: running back Mekhi Nelson is now listed as questionable.

Nelson was not on the first injury report released for the week, when starting running back Jamal Rule was listed as doubtful. His status hasn’t changed, which suggests he will be out against the Terps.

Losing Rule and Nelson would be concerning. Isaiah Mozee has been productive this season. He’s got 149 yards on 31 carries (4.8 per carry). He’s had multiple runs of more than 20 yards, and he’s a stellar pass catcher.

Nebraska football has to hope that Nelson can go. He’s been electric. He’s got 333 total yards this season, with an average of 5.8 yards per carry. Jacory Barney is questionable. Brendan Black is probable.

Nebraska football expected to host 5-star Ohio State commitment for visit

According to Bobby Schneider, Nebraska football, thanks in part to Trae Taylor, is going to host 5-star EDGE David Jacobs for a visit. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound EDGE is ranked No. 3 overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Jacobs had 34 sacks in his first three seasons of high school. He has been committed to the Buckeyes since last December. Getting him on campus would be massive. Who knows if that will give the Huskers a realistic chance to flip him, but it’s a massive development either way.

Like Trae Taylor, Jacobs would be a game-changing commitment.
