Nebraska football has taken a totally different approach to NIL under the direction of new athletic director Troy Dannen and on Wednesday, the Cornhuskers made another really cool announcement.

On August 3rd, Nebraska football will hold an open practice and will sell tickets to fans to be able to watch. Each ticket is going to be $25 and according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online, there isn’t going to be a limit on tickets sold.

Nebraska is going to practice under the lights. It will be the first week of training camp and heck, it might be the first day of full pads. Cornhuskers fans should get plenty of chances to see the guys scrimmage and who doesn’t want to get a glimpse of Dylan Raiola?

If 10,000 people show up, that’s $250K. Nebraska footbal could raise some real money and the practice will be held at Memorial Stadium, so it wouldn’t be shocking if the place practically sold out. The Cornhuskers could add some real money for the NIL vault and that’s never a bad thing with the way things are going.

It’s a win for the fans and a win for the Nebraska football program.

Nebraska ranked as a “blue-blood contender”

I don’t care much about the blue-blood debate but Andy Staples talked about it on Wednesday and listed Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma as blue-bloods.

I agree with most of those. Nebraska football probably isn’t a blue blood (right now). The Cornhuskers haven’t played in a bowl game since 2016 but every program has down cycles. Matt Rhule has the arrow pointing up and if Nebraska starts becoming a playoff contender again, maybe it can eventually work its way back into the blue-blood mix.

It’s fodder for offseason debate mostly, but Penn State and Notre Dame haven’t won national championships since the 1980s, so their inclusion is a little strange. Nebraska has struggled the past few years, but those programs have had some down years too.

At any rate, let’s get back to a bowl game in 2024 and go from there.

Nebraska Cornhuskers have zero top-100 players in EA Sports ‘College Football 25’

EA Sports said it was going to release rosters on Wednesday for the new ‘College Football 25’ video game. Instead, EA Sports released the top 100 overall players in the game.

Nebraska football didn’t have anyone make the list. Nash Hutmacher is probably a guy I would stump for, but there are tons of quality defensive linemen out there.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter but it would have been cool to get a peek at the Nebraska football roster for the game, which comes out July 19th or July 16th if you get the MVP edition.
