Five-star offensive tackle David Sanders visited Nebraska football and Tennessee over the weekend and it seems, with a decision looming on August 17th, that the Vols and Huskers are the top contenders.
According to On3 insiders for Nebraska football and Tennessee, “I think these two have pulled ahead” which is a reference to the Vols and Huskers in the recruitment of Sanders, a 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive tackle out of Charlotte who is ranked No. 2 overall in the 2025 class and No. 1 among offensive tackles according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Where things stand with Nebraska football and David Sanders
Sanders took an official visit to Nebraska football in May. That was his only visit until Friday when he made the trip to Lincoln with much fanfare. Huskers quarterback Dylan Raiola called for fans to greet Sanders and a few hundred fans showed up.
Sanders had a huge grin on his face. Raiola went around town with him and you could see that Nebraska football moved the needle. How much? That’s hard to tell. Sanders visited Tennessee after Nebraska. He’s got a commitment date set for August 17.
That gives both teams a few weeks to keep recruiting him, but it’s notable that the Huskers have surged past Ohio State and Georgia. Nebraska already moved past Clemson and Alabama to make the top four, so the Huskers have been trending up.
Will it lead to a commitment? That’s hard to say. The only crystal ball right now is for Clemson and the Tigers have been eliminated. I like where Nebraska stands but it feels like a 50/50 proposition.
Nebraska might have a slight lead, but will that hold for 20 days? That’s an eternity in recruiting. Tennesse also has 2025 quarterback George MacIntyre working hard on Sanders, just like Raiola.
It feels like a true toss-up but for Nebraska, that still feels like a win.
