The Nebraska football coaching staff is never done looking for talent and they proved that once again on Tuesday with the addition of a late 2024 commitment.

At a satellite camp in Houston, the Huskers have been extending offers. There were a few handed out on Monday. David Hoffken, a 6-foot-8 offensive tackle from Germany, who is part of the 2024 class, was offered on Tuesday and according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online, he committed on the spot.

There are different reports on the height, but Callahan says that Hoffken is 6-foot-8. He’s listed at 257 pounds so he obviously has a lot of room to grow. Nebraska football is a perfect fit for the German prospect who came over to America.

Some thoughts on a new commitment for Nebraska football

More of these European prospects have started coming over to play football, and at a place like Nebraska, which has a top-notch weight room and all the tools needed for elite development, it feels like a perfect fit.

Hoffken is likely joining the roster as a preferred walk-on. Nebraska football has been aggressive in adding talent to the roster and using NIL instead of a scholarship in order to do so.

Hoffken is probably years away from playing. The 2024 season will be a redshirt and I wouldn’t expect him to compete for a spot on the two-deep in 2025 either. It’s going to take time but with Matt Rhule and Donovan Raiola, I’ve got confidence in the Huskers’ ability to develop him.

If it works out, Nebraska football could be getting a helluva player. If not, they didn’t risk much and it’s smart to bet on those measurables and athleticism. As Rhule says, the coaching staff should be able to teach a guy like that to play football and that’s part of the calculus with this kind of offer/commitment.
