Saturday was a rough day for the Nebraska basketball team. The Huskers blew a 15-point lead and Nebraska fans, for the second week in a row, watched a Big Ten championship slip away.

I know the Huskers would have needed to win on Sunday, but I’d take Nebraska against Wisconsin. It felt like destiny until Terrence Shannon, with a big assist from Big Ten refs, turned that dream into a nightmare.

Still, it was a dream regular season for Nebraska basketball and as head coach Fred Hoiberg pointed out on Saturday, it’s not over.

“The blessing is that we get to play next week, whether that’s on Thursday or Friday, we’re gonna have the opportunity to continue to compete and hopefully, make a little run and continue to do things that have never been done with this program,” he said.

Nebraska basketball had never made the Big Ten semifinals or received a double-bye for the Big Ten tournament. The Huskers have also never won an NCAA tournament game and they’ll have the chance to make history the next time they take the floor.

Final Nebraska basketball bracketology update

For a brief moment, Nebraska was a seven seed according to ESPN, but Joe Lunardi has the Huskers projected as a No. 8 seed going up against Colorado State in Memphis. Bracket Matrix also has Nebraska projected as a No. 8 seed. The Huskers are in 100 percent of the bracketology projections.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team is projected as a No. 8 seed. They would play against Kansas in Columbia, South Carolina according to ESPN. CBS will broadcast the men’s selection show at 6 PM EST. ESPN will show the women’s selection special at 8 PM EST.

Nebraska Cornhuskers diamond roundup

It’s always fun to see the Nebraska Cornhuskers beat Creighton and the softball team did that in just five innings thanks to a 9-0 run-rule victory.

Billie Andrews moved into a tie for second all-time on the Huskers home run list with her 53rd career dinger. She went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, plus she scored twice.

Caitlin Olensky, a freshman, earned the first shutout of her career, blanking the Blue Jays after allowing just three hits in five innings pitched, while striking out four.

Nebraska baseball rolled to a 15-0 win over Nicholls on Saturday in a game that turned into a home-run derby. Will Walsh blasted a grand slam, going 3-for-3 with five RBI.

Rhett Stokes had three hits for the fifth straight game, while Gabe Swanson belted a three-run homer. Brett Sears (3-0) was smooth on the mound allowing zero runs and three hits in six innings. Nebraska baseball is now 12-5 on the season.
