The SEC offers keep coming for key in-state targets of Nebraska football: Christian Jones and Chase Loftin.

Matt Rhule has done an amazing job as Nebraska football head coach of keeping the best players in the state from leaving the state.

Nebraska football landed Malachi Coleman in the 2023 recruiting class. The Huskers followed that up with Carter Nelson, Daniel Kaelin, Dae’Vonn Hall, Isaiah McMorris, Caleb Benning, and others.

So far, if there has been a national recruit in the state of Nebraska, Rhule has been able to win him over. But that will be tested once again in the 2025 recruiting class.

With Tyson Terry, Caden VerMass, and Conor Booth, Nebraska football has three of the top eight recruits in the state already committed. But the top two players — Chase Loftin and Christian Jones — are far from guaranteed, especially as SEC scholarship offers keep rolling in.

Loftin, the No. 2 prospect in the state via the 247 Sports composite rankings, will take a number of visits this spring including one to Oklahoma. Florida also offered the 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end this week. FSU also offered in January.

Loftin has been to Nebraska seven times. Oklahoma is second with four trips but the more national this recruitment goes, the more interesting it will be to watch. As of now, the Huskers feel like they’re in a good spot, but like the recruitment of Jones, it’s far from a sure thing.

Tennessee jumps in the mix for Christian Jones

Jones, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker is ranked as the No. 1 recruit in Nebraska in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Rankings and the 247 Sports composite rankings.

There is a total of 18 offers on the table for Jones and outside of Nebraska football, the teams include Notre Dame, USC, Texas A&M, Missouri, Penn State, Wisconsin, and as of Wednesday, Tennessee.

The Vols are a rising power once again in the SEC and they extended Jones an offer. They also offered Hall in the 2024 cycle but didn’t make that strong of a push.

Tennessee is the third SEC program to offer Jones and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The good news though is that Jones has visited the Huskers eight times. He hasn’t visited another program more than once according to On3.com.

That could change this spring and summer, but right now, it feels like the Huskers are in the pole position and they control all of the crystal balls and expert projections from On3.com.
