Nebraska football made two additions this week via the transfer portal, adding former five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri, as well as long-snapper Kevin Gallic on Saturday.

Both commitments are huge in their own right. Gallice fills a key need because long-snapping was a huge problem for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It might have cost the team two games in 2024.

Nwaneri will be one of the highest-ranked players (recruiting-wise) to ever play for Nebraska football. He’s got first-round talent and could be an impact player for the next 2-3 years.

Yet, the Huskers are far from finished. They will be hosting two of the top wide receivers in the portal according to Husker Online, as FIU standout Eric Rivers will visit starting on Sunday. Rivers, a 5-foot-11, 172-pound receiver, is one of the most highly-sought players in the portal after 62 receptions last season for 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Nyziah Hunter, who caught 40 passes for 578 as a freshman for Cal last season, is another dude that’s getting a ton of attention in the portal. Yet, Nebraska football will host him for a visit later this week.

Kameron Olds, an EDGE from Kent State who had six sacks and seven tackles for loss last season last season, is visiting the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday too, while Jack McCallister, a punter from Washington, is also on campus this weekend.

So keep an eye out for some potential commitments in the coming days. In terms of players leaving Nebraska football, Jimari Butler committed to LSU, Stefon Thompson committed to Florida State, and Princewill Umanmielen will head to Ole Miss.

Nebraska Cornhuskers to face Wisconsin for Final Four

Following a hard-fought win over Dayton on Friday night, a win that featured 22 kills from Harper Murray, which tied the school record for kills in an NCAA tournament match, Nebraska volleyball will turn its attention to Wisconsin in the regional final for a berth in the Final Four.

While the Huskers beat Dayton in four sets, the Wisconsin Badgers beat Texas A&M in five. Nebraska volleyball swept Wisconsin twice this season and has won three of the last four, including the last two at the BOB in Lincoln, where the match will be played Sunday (2 PM CST on ABC).

The match will be broadcast on national television. The 32-2 Huskers have been on a mission to get back to the national championship match and win it. But a win over the Badgers would at least clinch a second consecutive Final Four appearance (3 in 4 years).

It won’t be easy though. Sarah Franklin is the Big Ten Player of the Year. The seventh-ranked Badgers are eighth in the nation in hitting percentage (.291) and first in blocks per set (3.08). Franklin leads Wisconsin with 4.48 kills per set. Anna Smrek adds 2.88 kills per set.

The Huskers rank fourth nationally and first in the Big Ten in opponent hitting percentage at .139. Nebraska volleyball also led the nation in opponent-hitting percentage in 2022 and 2023.

It should be an epic match. Go Big Red.
