It was a busy day of transfer portal activity for Nebraska football. The Huskers didn’t land any commitments but they continue to expand their board and get more targets on campus.
Nebraska football also suffered another notable departure. This time it was running back Dante Dowdell who essentially shared the position with Emmett Johnson. Dowdell scored 12 rushing touchdowns as a sophomore, in his only season with the Huskers.
The former four-star prospect from Mississippi rushed for 614 yards this season and led Nebraska in rushing six times. Dowdell was an effective power back for the Huskers at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, and most expected him to serve as part of a one-two punch with Emmett Johnson next season.
Now, the Huskers need to add a running back. It’s not a debate.
A flurry of transfer portal activity
The most notable thing that happened on Monday was 6-foot-8 offensive tackle Isaiah World including Nebraska among his final three choices along with Oregon and Texas A&M.
World reportedly has a $1 million price tag but visited Nebraska on Monday and put the Huskers in his top three. Oregon could be tough to beat. Texas A&M could be too, but landing World would be massive for the Huskers who need an elite pass protector for Dylan Raiola.
World didn’t allow a sack in 420 pass-blocking reps last season and would certainly fit the bill. Ohio State was another school in the mix that didn’t crack the top three, which tells you what teams think of the former Nevada offensive tackle.
Nebraska is also hosting a slew of other transfers according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online. One new visitor is former Idaho defensive back Andrew Marshall who will visit Lincoln. The 6-foot, 186-pounder has had 40 tackles, eight pass breakups, and one forced fumble for the Vandals in the last two seasons.
Former Arizona State/Oregon State EDGE D.J. Wesolak (two career tackles) is another who will visit along with Chris Murray, a defensive lineman from Murray State with 11.5 TFL and five sacks last season at the FCS level.
Adrian Maddox, a safety from UAB who had 44 tackles, two forced fumbles, and an interception, will also visit this Nebraska football week.
